Adding red dot/scope to a 617?

My old eyes aren't what they used to be so I'm interested in adding either a scope or a red dot to my gun.
Since this is a early model S&W stainless 617 .22 and not drilled/tap for a scope mount, I'll need to have done by a gunsmith.
Anyone know about what the going rate is to have this done and can I get a decent red dot or scope for about $150 or so?:)

I had the top strap of this 15-6 drilled and tapped in the current factory pattern at Cylinder & Slide. IIRC... they charged me $15 per hole.

www.jackweigand.com has a nice mount, as does S&W.

I've had good luck with the Leupold/Gilmore red dot, but I'd recomend the UltraDot from www.larrysguns.com Great quality, plus a lifetime warranty.

Good Luck...

Joe
