Added an Outdoorsman to the Collection

A friend of mine was selling a few guns from his late fathers collection and I picked it up this afternoon. I believe it is a 1952 production S&W Outdoorsman with a 6.5" barrel. Doesn't look like it has been shot much and ironically it used to be my father's revolver back in the early 1970's. Finally brought it home and not to bad a deal at $500.

That's a beaut. I never really understood the purpose for the OD with the 357 Magnum available but they are beautiful revolvers.

Very nice! It's also nice that it has "retuned home" as well . . . that it was your Dad's at one time just makes it even more special! :)

Nice. It looks like it has the "bright" finish which was optional or in some runs in the 52-54 region standard. If you get a chance, compare your finish to say a Pre-27 and see if it matches or is more of a slightly dull look. That is more the standard for the 38/44OD's.

I have a couple of "glossies" as I call them. Very striking. The rest of the gun looks like a standard model of 1950 as best I can tell.

Here are some of my OD's on the floor. I have a couple of more I can't seem to locate right now. They were buried in another safe behind Christmas decorations.

Here is my glossy post war (54 I believe) with optional target grips, target hammer and target trigger.

I agree with Sax, it's a beaut. Almost picked one up at a local shooter store, but my M-28 was so close in appearance I passed. I shoot Elmer and Skeeter's 38 special loads thru it and would have worked great in the Outdoorsman.
