action lengths

What is the difference between short action and long. What is my mod 70 win 30-06 ?

The length of bolt pull to chamber a cartridge. A 30-06 is a long action. A 308 is a short action.

Yes. Cartridge length determines action length.

Some manufacturers and custom makers list five action lengths - magnum, long, intermediate, short and super short. The last or the latter two sometimes use receivers that are scaled down overall, not just shorter.

IIRC, the original Model 70 had only one action length forging. Adjustment for everything from .375 H&H Magnum to .22 Hornet was done by tweaking that basic platform.
