AA 2200 in an M1???

I still have a couple 8# jugs of AA 2200 I bought on the cheap at the Tulsa Gunshow a number of years back. Have loaded up .223 using it wiht pretty decent functionality results. It's kinda dirty, but it's cheap. I still have the little pamphlet of some of the early loadings AA suggested for it's use, and the 30-06 was not listed at that time. I have googled and haven't found an updated load chart yet for that caliber. The powder is really on the fast side, and prolly a bit too fast the the M1, but they have loads for the 7.62X39 also. I know the X39 is an anemic loading compared to the '06 loads for the M1, but just wondering if anyone has tried it or knows of published load recommendations for the M1 using this powder.

I believe it's too fast for the M1 Rifle and too slow for the M1 Carbine. I wouldn't try it in mine.

It is a very fast powder meant for small 17 through 20 caliber cases with light bullets.

Retumbo in your 223Rem should work equally as well.

Way to fast for the 06. If you did find data for it I doubt it would produce enough port pressure to cycle the action.

Yeah I highly doubt it will cycle your gun. It could be useful for some reduced power loads for plinking but plan on manually cycling the action. I've done the exact same thing with Alliant 2400 for .223 Remington. Download a copy of Alliants 2004 load manual, they have 2400 loads for 30-06 and that would be a good place to start with AA2200 being that it is a slower burning powder. Better than using 7.62x39mm load data in my mind.

Kinda what I was expecting, too fast for the M1. It works OK in the AR, but there are better powders. I have yet to try reloades in the X39, but have finally got the mould I wanted to shoot in it, so will try it soon. I still have a batch of milsurp stuff back when it was 7 cents a pop, loaded. Have decided to start reloading the x39, before I shoot all the steel stuff up. Might need it someday.
