A2/.30 flash hider on Savage hog rifle

I'm wanting to put an A2(bird cage) style flash hider on my .308 hog rifle. I understand to match thread types (5/8 x 24) but to orient the slots on the unit I suppose I will need a crush washer.

Does the fact that the hog rifle has a semi-heavy barrel call for the use of a crush washer other than that used in AR-10 type builds?

Anybody actually put an A2/.30 on a hog rifle?

Get the flash hide first and get the person that threads the barrel for you to fit it. he can set it back to where you wont need a crush washer.

dumb looking thread protector

No, not in the dark. But I think the thread protector looks a bit goffy out there, knurled and larger than the OD of the barrel. Yeah its for looks. But hey, its THREADED, I gotta put something out there.

got it!

For anybody interested, I received my A2 flash hider and crush washer from Larue today.

On the Savage Hog Rifle, the diameter of the barrel and the A2 unit are a good match, so too the crush washer. They look like they belong out at the muzzle, the diameter and the finish match very well. If you're like me, and feel like that knurled collar on the end of the Savage seems a bit lame and unattractive, the A2 from Larue is an affordable option.

I will not install the thing 'till after deer season, no use taking the chance of dorking up the accuracy or zero on the rifle.
