A question for Beretta owners

I was at the range a few days ago, testing out my new Beretta 96.
I happen to have a Beretta 92 with a Harrts recoil reducer.

As part of my testing, I was swapping the guide rod between the two guns.

The guide rod itself is identical on both pistols. What I didn't realize, was that the spring length is different. I think I kept the guns seperated correctly, but I'm not positive.

Is the 96 supposed to have the longer spring, or the 92? I don't know if it makes any difference, but the 92 is an Elite I and the 96 is an Elite II.
