A fix is in for the S&W AR-10 barrels [quoted]

[From another forum-FYI] So, you don’t have to ‘junk’ it just because the barrel failed. A fix is in for the S&W AR-10 barrels that they won’t fix and will not sell. Contact Black Hole Weaponry in Oregon. It seems the S&W priority barrel extension IS removable and can be reinstalled on a BHW http://blackholeweaponry.com/http://blackholeweaponry.com/ barrel of your choice.

I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN SOONER OR LATER :)

Good thing to know but I only use my M&P10 for hunting and some range use. I doubt I will ever has issues with mine and it has been extremely accurate and reliable so far. With so many out there I have only heard of one person who has ruined their barrel. I was sorry to hear about his troubles but it didn't change my opinion of S&W one bit.

Hunting with it would be my greatest paranoia. If it is the pencil-barrel version, it measures .590. Subtract .308 for the bore, and you have a .141 bore wall thickness with a barrel stamping rolled into it. Take a look at any of the catastrophic barrel failures (from any cause) on the MP-10's and any that I have seen pictures of were on this thin barrel wall area.

Now, take a look at the flash guard when you lean it against a tree and you will see a perfect funnel for bark chips to inadvertently drop into the barrel. I am beginning to believe water droplets (or even just rain) may cause overstress-failure in this thin barrel area.

Just Saying (something to think about anyway)

There is no widespread problem with mp10 barrels that I know of. There is a lot of internet concern over one user caused failure. One rifle in how many thousand? Maintain proper perspective.
