9mm Makarov bullet shape (FMJ)

Is the rather blunt, almost spherical tip of the fmj Makarov round an unacknowledged benefit to the "knock-down" power of this round?

Would this feature also prevent over penetration compared with the 9mm short, or 9mm Luger?

Am I over simplifying this?
