870 - sport forend vs. tactical forend?

I just bought a new wood stocked 870 with a 28" barrel. I plan to buy an 18" barrel for HD. It will be a dove gun and a defensive gun.

I want to order a synthetic stock set.

Which forend is better? You can get the sport style or the shorter defense style like on the police version. Does anyone know the pros and cons?

I would prefer the sport forend if you are gonna be using the gun for hunting also. The tactical, or short forend is useful if you want to mount a sidesaddle on the gun. Either will work, it's really personal preference.

How much are the 870 tactical forends? I want one! I also want to pick up a pistol grip folding stock. Anyone know if I can find those used?

I bought a pistol-grip forend to match my pistol grip stock, but I never use it. Well, almost never.

Unless you're a pixie and/or want a S/S, either will do. Smaller people may fare better with the long forend.
Use of a 6 round S/S means using the shorter forend.
