870 problems

A buddy of mine purchased a new 20 gauge youth model 870 and he is having problems with cycling. More accurately the shells don't always come out the magazine tube when cycling the action. Upon closer inspection I found that the left hand shell latch (side opposite the ejection port) is occasionally on the inside of the action bar when the pump is slid to the rear. When this happens the gun pumps hard and the shell stays in the magazine tube. It is my understanding when the action bars move rearward it is suppose to push that latch outward allowing a shell to move to the ramp.

My question is: Is the problem located at the action bar or is it the latch?

Sorry about being long winded.

It's probably the shell latch.

Even bent action bars are forced into position by the receiver and bolt slide.

I'd check for a loose or bent shell latch. They should be firmly staked in place, or better still, have him return it to where he bought it, OR contact Remington to send it back under warranty.

Thanks for the reply and he is going to return it. I was just curious about it should I run into it in the future.
