I'm thinking about trying an 85 grain bullet in my 6BR, it has a 1:12 twist.
Have any of you guys tried this?
Do you think it will stabilize?
THANKS for any help!

Haven't tried it, but I say go for it. The worst that can happen is it leaves you off no better than you are now, or the bullet destabilizes in flight as it drops velocity. Won't know until you load some up.

IIRC the 1:12 twist was in the .244 Remington and the 85 grain range is towards the upper end of what it would stabilize reliably. I think you should be okay.

The ability for a barrel of a given twist rate to stabilize a bullet of a given weight depends a lot on rpm of the bullet, so it is dependent on velocity of the bullet. You should be OK with that, but it may be marginal due to moderate velocity of the 6mm BR.

We ran some with 28, 28.5 & 29 grains of Benchmark. The 85 grain bullet DID stabilize!
THANKS for the replies!
