7n6 ban upheld

A Seattle court has upheld the BATFE ban on the importation of 7n6 ammo.

Bad news for shooters.....

My question is, since the 7n6 bullet is very similar to the "green tip" 556 ammo they tried to ban last year, how does this court decision affect that issue?

7n6 ban has no impact on green tip, due to the large, immediate, gun community response to the proposed green tip ban. For the ATF: 1 + 1 != 2

Thats a little simplistic. There is now CASE LAW saying that bullets with any steel insert in the the body of the bullet ARE in fact "armor piercing".

That is NOT how the regulation reads, but the courts have decided to interpert it that way.

Outcry from the gun community will not trump a court decision.

It doesn't much matter anyhow.

IF it were allowed to be imported again, you just know the hoarders would snatch it all up as fast as possible. It wouldn't be cheap for long.

I realize the ship has sailed on 7n6. Im wondering if this sets a precedence for "similar" designed bullets. The 556 Green tip comes immediately to mind.

Lead with a steel insert...can be fired in handguns...

I have a good supply of 7n6 that I'd trade one for one for Hornady 60 V-max.

District courts don't make case law. The case has no precedential value until it is appealed.

Outcry from the gun community DID trump regulatory action by the ATF. The ATF DID try to ban import of green tip, but the outcry was immediate and effective.

Absent CASE LAW, combined with gun community & congressional interest, the ATF did not go through with the ban. Maybe some day, if there is CASE LAW, we'll have a different, less simplistic, discussion .
