7mm-08 pleasantly suprised.

I have a Savage Model 11 that I use as my Barrel swapping gun.
Depending my mood, it may be a 308, 243 and now a 7mm-08.
Going from 308 to 243 included a new scope. So I had to go through all the scope settings.

This time I kept the same scope. The reason I added this to cast bullets section is because this gun is only shooting cast.

I swapped out the barrel, set the head space, re attached the scope.
I was able to figure out a way to connect the action wrench with out having to remove the front scope mount.

Loaded up a bunch of cast loads. I used the same powder load I used for the 308.
20gr of 4227.

Bingo!!!! 1st shots flew in about 2 inches below POA. Adjust the scope up 2 inches.
All shots landing with in 1.5 inches at 100 yards.
Nice!!! I love it when a plan comes together.

I have just a little vertical stringing to adjust for. But hey easy peasy!!!

I have a couple of 03A3's and a couple of others I want to try some cast in. I hope they are as you say "easy peasy' ;)

I seem to have much better luck with small to medium cases.
30 06 and 8mm Mauser just gives me fits. Just to much extra case volume for me I guess.
I have been working two years on a Mauser load and still am not happy.

ive never shot one, but those seem like awesome rounds, how do they like cast? how fast do you push them, 2600+? do you powder coat?

i need affirmation that powder coat or well-lubed cast can be pushed to ar15 velocities

For most of the cartridges listed, if you want to get to higher velocities the paper jacket is by far the way to go. It will take some work but the results can be astonishing.

I have every thing I need to paper patch. I have tried it a bit and results for me have not been good.
But thats just because I dont know what I am doing and I am all thumbs.
I guess I should have rolled a few joints when I was young but never had the desire.

Wish some on around here did it so I could get trained...

The paper patching forum over at castboolits.gunloads.com has enough information on the subject to make your head spin.

One of these days, I'll get around to trying PP'd RCBS 165 SILs in my Mosin M38. One of these days....

If .444 Marlin had a proper rifle throat, rather than something closer to a revolver chamber, I probably would have tried it already in the Handi-Rifle.
