7.62 NATO?

It is for 308 Winchester/7.62 NATO and not the soviet block ammo.

It's the same as .308
Kind of like the way .223 and 5.56x45 are the same but have different names. One is the NATO round (7.62 NATO and 5.56) and one is the civilian round (.308 and .223)

Isn't SAAMI:
GO: 1.630 in.
NO-GO: 1.634 in.
FIELD: 1.638 in.
While the 7.62 NATO or 7.62mm x 51mm depends on who is making it:
FN FAL:
GO: 1.6325 in. (FN & Brit/commonwealth. Canadian is 1.6315 in.)
NO-GO: 1.638 in.
FIELD: 1.640 in.
7.62 NATO (M14 US MILSPEC):
GO: 1.6355 in.
NO-GO: 1.638 in.
FIELD: 1.6445 in.
Also it is important to keep in mind that the above numbers are chamber specifications. Cartridges are manufactured to fit the chamber. Looking at some of the 7.62 x 51 NATO ammunition I have actually measured the stuff generally comes in right around 1.628" to 1.632" as measured case head to the 0.400" datum on the case shoulder.

'NATO' is a spec for military ammo. SAMMI is a spec for commercial hunting ammo.
7.62mm is actually the nominal bore diameter, not the bullet diameter. 7.62NATO's bullet is .308" in diameter. 7.62 x 39's is .311" diameter.
Don't ever try to figure out why cartridges are named what they are. It'll give you brain damage.
Before there was an internet, millions of rounds of 7.62NATO were fired out of commercial hunting rifles and semi'd(and not) battle rifles with no fuss whatsoever.
"...Canadian is..." CF weapons techs do not use a Field gauge. And everything fired out of CF weapons is NATO spec.
