7-30 Waters

I'm considering a 23-inch barrel for my old style Contender in 7-30 Waters. Does any one have experience with this round?

I get great results with Hornady's 120 gr SP, RL-15, and fireformed 30-30 Remington cases.

For fireforming I use the same Hornady bullet and a mid-range load of W748 in the necked-down 30-30 cases. It's a very accurate load, but too mild for hunting.

Can you describe the procedure you use in making 30-30 rounds into the 7-30 waters. I have a 10 and 12'' 7-30 waters barrels and they shoot great but I can't find the federal brass 7-30. Thanks so much.

Jack, it couldn't be any simpler, just run a 30-30 (lubed) into your full length 7 X 30 dies. Viola, a 7X30 case appears with a smaller neck and small shoulder. Chamfer and load any normal 7X30 load to fire form. The brass blows out to fully form the case, you can hardly see the old 30-30 shoulder. The same process also works on 32 win special cases.
