686 SP compared to 687 SP II

Need some Beretta experts to step up and share the "wealth". I own a 687 SP II "field". My best friend and his wife own 686 SP's each. He just got the 30" sporting model and she has the regular field model.

What are the differences, besides the price aspect of these shotguns. We noticed a few differences, but was wondering if this was all just renumbering schemes or legit differences other than the reciever engraving.....

Any help??

Thanks,

Ed

The differences are largely cosmetic as you've noted. The Sporting guns are a touch fancier and possibly a bit heavier. The one main difference however is the field guns usually have an auto safety.
