629-5 MG Laser Etching

I recently acquired a 629-5 Mountain Gun. The laser etching on both sides of the barrel (Stainless steel) is pretty worn, especially towards the tip of the barrel. Either through overly agressive cleaning or odd holster wear or? Who knows? It looks bad, for sure.
This, to me, is not a collectible but a shooter/CCW piece.
Anyway, I'm probably going to go ahead and remove the etching. Any suggestions on how to go about it? Sandpaper or nylon scrub pad maybe? Of course I'd rather not have to redo the entire revolver to match.
Any positive suggestions would sure be appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Ray
