5" J Frame - These Things Rare?

Not to me. I think a minimum size, 5" barrel 357mag would have been my dream pistol when I back packed.
Not silly at all.
Of course, if the farthest you will carry it is from the car to the pistol range, get a 6" Model 27 instead.

I always saw them as a good fit for folk with small hands that wanted a 357MGN revolver, rather than a long barrel belly gun.

Best,

Told a Smith Rep 30 some years ago I wanted a 'J' frame grip on a 'K' frame. Basically a 2" M19 with a 4" plus barrel. Regular 'K' frame grip is about an inch too long for my hand.

I have a 3" 60-15 Pro, well balanced. I never had an interest in the 5" J frame. Now a 4" on the other hand would get my attention. It would be a good pairing for my 4" model 34.

I have to agree that the 5" barrel on a J-frame just doesn't look right. The 3" full underlug .357 60-10, however, reminds me of a shrunken 686.
