I'm gonna say no. They are a longer version of the 45 Colt really so if there was something out there, I would think it would be common knowledge.

I use Starline and even though it isn't cheap, I have several reloads on them with no problems as of yet.

Great cartridge, it's very high pressure so take no chances with any brass not designed for 60k plus PSI.

I don't believe there is one. The case length is about 1.8. I just measured a loaded Hornady and it was 1.792. The closest thing to it is a 45-70 but the case is larger diameter and the rim is much larger. 460 bullet diameter is .452 and the 45-70 is .458. There might be a wildcat out there that would work but I'm not familiar with one.

The original case was the 7.5x55mm Swiss , but that was rimless , For use in a bolt action rifle . At first I wanted moon clips for revolver use , but they did not . So a rimmed version was made up from the old 7.5mm Swiss rimmed . Then a modern version made from scratch .

No, there are no other cases that can be trimmed to make 460 S&W. 460 S&W is the longest rimmed straight wall 45 caliber handgun cartridge. So, from shortest to longest, 45 Cowboy, 45 Schofield, 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 460 S&W.

It's not so much the length or bullet diameter as it is the rim diameter. You'd have to find a case with a .520" rim diameter. Or very close to that.
The .45-70 is too big(I think turning 88 thou of the rim would be too much.). The .30-30 is too small. So is anything based on it. So's the .303 Brit and .30-40 Krag(that's almost impossible to find anyway).
I suspect you're in a situation where one needs to check the cost and availability of ammo/brass out before buying.

The Marlin's rim diameter is too small too. .514" vs the .520" of the Smith. .512" for the Colt. Closer than others though.

Is this because you can't find any .460 cases anywhere or is it you are looking for something cheap?

As for the first, they are readily available online. I prefer Starline over Hornady because the Starline seem to last longer.

As for the second. Cheap and .460S&W just don't mix. It's like a high maintenance woman that will not settle for Pleather, cubic zirconia and faux fur. Would one buy a high performance sports car and then accept the poor performance from running E85 gas thru it? If one can afford the platform, one can afford the proper ammo/reloading components. Proper projectiles for legitimate .460 ammo are not cheap, altho many try to get by with those intended for use in much lesser calibers. .460 ammo takes a lot of powder to push those projectiles and it takes good brass to contain it. Even good brass has a fairly short life span with legitimate .460 loadings. Get some good brass and save yourself the trouble of scoring your chambers because of brass separation. Like having kids.....if you can't afford to feed them, you shouldn't really have them.

Yeah I slept on the decision to buy the 460. I think I've decided not to buy it. It was great fun shooting a friends at the range. And it was very accurate at 100 yds I must say, but there are other guns for around $1300 that I would rather have and to reload for.
