45/70 and .410 shotgun

I seem to remember, in my younger days, of a friend having an old Springfield trapdoor 45/70 and being able to shoot 45/70 rifle cartridges and .410 shotgun shells in it with no problems. I know the reverse is not safe to try. I'm thinking about getting a Guide Gun and thought if one could do this it would make the Guide Gun that much more versatile. Thanks for you help.

I don't know if this would work, and I don't think I'd try it. Even if it is possible, the rifling in the barrel will cause the shot to pattern in a doughnut shape, so it wouldn't be very effective.
