Does any one know the rate of twist for a .444 Marlin 22-inch bbl manufactured in 1982? It has a micro-groove barrel and I would like to reload using hard cast lead 300gr bullets and am concerned with stabilization.
THX.

I haven't tried loading .444, but I've had no luck loading cast bullets in other micro groove rifles. Yes, I heard the "hard" part.

I suggest go to the Leverguns website. Click on articles. Click on 444, The Other Bone Crusher. The article lists years that the twist rate changed as well as recommended bullets for accuracy & performance. The article is well written and you'll enjoy reading it.

Early 444 rifles may have trouble stabilizing heavier bullets like the 300 gr. When Hornady introduced the 265 gr bullet for the 444, a lot of people had trouble stabilizing it and had to stick with the 240 gr.
