Short answer: No

Medium answer: Yes, but is is a VERY bad idea.

Long answer: The 44 mag is a straight wall case, the 444 Marlin is a tapered case. While the gun will be able to hold the pressure of the 44 mag, you will at best get BADLY bulged cases and at worst get catastrophic case failures because the case will largely be unsupported in the oversize 444 marlin chamber. Having a nice jet of flame coming out the rear/side of your gun is considered by most people to be a bad thing.

Accuracy will be poor as well even though the 444 and 44 mag use the same size bullets.

The pictures below show the problem.

The only time I would consider doing it would be if I was starving in the wilderness and had a 444 Marlin gun and 44 mag ammo.

Aaaaaahhhhh, but there is another option,

The 44WCF or if you prefer, the 44/40 cartridge, works just fine as a subload in a 444MARLIN.
