.357 load question

So I've just started reloading for the .357. I'm looking to work up to a good light target load. I'm starting with 5.5 grains of Unique behind a 158 LRN.

My question is how much should this charge fill the case? I'm looking at alittle less than half full. Does that sound right? I'm weighing each charge and I'm just looking to double check the powder amount.

With the bullet seated in the case ? there should be about .125-.19" of space after the bullet is seated. this will varry with bullet type.
So if you are refering to the over all case capacity that sounds about right.

Yea, I meant before the bullet is seated. When I dump the powder into the case, before I seat the projectile, it's about alittle less than halfway full.

Thanks for the double check!

my favorite target load for my model 27 is 3.2-3.3 grs. of bullseye under a homecast 150 gr. lead swc in a .38 spl case like mr. wilson said though WATCH OUT FOR DOUBLE POWDER CHARGES..................

double loads

That's the beauty of a turret press--you can drop powder seat crimp all on one round--than turn it right back and do it again and no double shots of powder--
