300 Savage

I inherited my fathers 300-savage rifle, which he bought new in about 1960. It is in excellent condition.

What are your views on the 300 Savage? I am interested in your opinions...

What rifle did you get?

Most common are the Model 99 lever action, the Remington 722 bolt action, the Remington 81 semi-auto, and the Remington 760 slide action.

Given that he bought it new in 1960, it's probably either a Model 99 or a Remington 722. I THINK the .300 Sav. 760 was out of production by 1960.

The absolute holy grail for .300 Savage enthusiasts is one of the very very few Winchester Model 70s in .300 Savage. Very rare, TURBO expensive.

I have a 99. Fun gun, low recoil and hits hard. I have taken some good size deer with mine no trouble. My gun just happens to fit me better than about any other and shoots great for me. A lot of history with that cartrige too. Keep it and use it.

I have owned a few 99's and they've been great. My most accurate was a 722. In fact no one could ask for more...Gerat Quality back then....Essex
