30 Carbine / Sabot

Has any body out there tried using a plastic sabot with the 30 carbine cartridge I am thinking about trying it and would like to find out if it will work before buying the dies and such.

I haven't tried it myself. I have read several articals. It works and it does boost the velocity quite well. Accuracy is where there is a compromise. You won't improve accuracy of the gun your shooting. At best it will be equal to an average load without sabots. You will probably see accuracy drop off.

I tried it once and found that there was not
enough velocity to separate the sabot from the bullet at carbine speeds and dropped the project

Hicard,

That is interesting. Especially since even lower-velocity munitions such as saboted shotguns rounds seem to work fine. Perhaps it was your bullet or sabot design.

I know the 30 cal sabots are a lot stiffer than shotgun sabots which make a big difference in the way they react.

In my carbine the sabots do not produce enough impulse (pressure time) to actuate the tappet. Accuracy was about like the regular 110 gr.
