S&W 3913 users, what brand, and what weight 9mm are you running in it? Does Speer make a short barreled 9mm load yet? I didn't see anything in my search. Thanks. Regards 18DAI.

Don't have a S&W 3913 but I thought that I would add my two cents. Yes, Speer does still make their 9mm short barrel load. With a 3.5" barrel try to chose a load with a lighter for caliber weight (i.e. 115 grain - 127 grain). The standard 124 grain +P Speer Gold Dot load works well out of short barreled handguns. CorBon's DPX 115 grain +P load is also a very good short barrel load. Just try to stay with the lighter bullets and something in +P an you will be fine, as long as it is a premium defense load. Corbon DPX, Federal Hydra-shoks, Remington Golden Sabers, Speer Gold Dots, and Winchester Silvertips and SXT's all work well.

Forgive me for my ignorance...

But is the reason for staying with the lighter weight bullets a way of getting as much speed/penetrating power from the short barrel as possible? Just curious.

Personaly I recomend you use the round your pistol likes , that shows the most accuracy . IMHO reliability and accuracy are the two most imporntant considerations all else is just fluff .

I have found that the "light" slugs in 9mm (115 or 124) drop real fast when fired from a short barrel like the Kahr P9 and at even 7 yards can make a real difference in impact point. The 147 grainers seem to shoot much closer to POA. So is it POA vs. speed as a choice. Changing the sight height on most of the small 9mm's is not an easy thing to do...
