2)29-5
my question is,what does the suffix stand for?
this should be an easy one for you TFL'es

Those are called engineering change numbes. That signifies some major change in the design at a point in the gun's life.

They also serve to give you a rough date of manufacture, as in after X, and before X.

I'm not exactly certain what you mean by that question. Can you rephrase it, or expand on it a little bit, and hopefully I'll be able to answer you.

Cool, I just learned something new, I always thought the "-6" meant barrel length.

29-6 = 6 inch
586-4 = 4 inch

The suffix indicates modifications. The 629-3 came about in 1990 and the 4th mod was in 1994.

The 29-5 also first appeared in 1990 and the 29-6 in 1994.

Evidently, both guns were made between 1990 and 1994.
