.243 .vs .22-250

Your question is sorta like asking...

"Which is better a screwdriver or hammer?"

Gotta know what you intend to do with it. It's a toolbox, remember.

243 is crosswind is a factor. If you want to buck x-winds with 22 you need to consider a faster twist round like the 223 that can handle the heavier boatails.

I vote for the 243. It's good for woodchucks, deer and similar sized game. I have a friend who lived in West Africa for 13 years his son used a 243 to hunt large plains African game very effectively.

Tom M, the .22-250 is some 600 to 700 ft/sec higher MV than the .223...It and the Swift pretty much rule the hot-22 roost.

I've read posts here of some pretty impressive long-distance .243 shooting. I've taken some 20 whitetails with a little Sako carbine; I've found it to be plumb ruinacious on coyotes. Like the .308 from which it is derived, it's an inherently accurate cartridge.

The .22-250 can be finicky, but it, too, will give excellent accuracy after some tweaking with bedding and loads. My uncle's old Mauser actioned, Gebby barrel "Varminter" shot 1/2 MOA, and this was 50 years ago...
