.223 or .224? (.222rem)

What should I be using? I have a BSA .222 rem that I picked up second hand for a good price (buy 3 rifles, sell 1. $0 final outlay). I have put a few (less then 100) factory rounds through it and am getting ready to start reloading. What diameter projectiles should I be getting? Can I use either if I work up a load for each one?

That's a sweet cartridge. The bullets are .224

Far as I know all the 22 caliber cartridges including the 223, use bullets at .224.
218 Bee, 223, 222, 22-250, 220 Swift etc. all the same.

I prefer the 55 grain bullets in my 222.

I use 3031 powder. It fills the case.

Have fun!

no not all 22cf are 224 in dia.

but your 222 rem is more than likely a .224" bullet. Just the earlest 22 cf were .223" the Hornet is one you will run into with bullet size in both .223 and .224.

If you are worried get some cerosafe and do a chamber and throat cast and measure it. other than that I think they are .224" bullets.

Eary 22 Hornets, particularly in Winchester rifles, used .223" bullets. Allothers should be .224".
