.22 handgun scope help

I'm trying to decide on a scope for my Ruger 22/45 target model. I had it drilled and tapped and installed a wieland combat rail a while back. Then I mounted a red dot to it. I've been watching the How to shoot beyond belief 3 disc set lately. They talk about using a scoped .22 handgun for trigger control practice. Of course they have a paclite upper and leupold scope with target turrets on it. But they are shooting a balloon at 140 yards with it. Anyway, I don't want to spend 300 on a scope for it. So would you pick a Simmons Pro hunter or NC star? Fixed 4 power or variable? I can't believe Simmons has a scope that costs more than $100. But I've seen it on quite a few .44mags for some reason. Or a different manufacturer?

Sorry for the long windiness I've been up for 30 hours and drinkin the last 3. To bed I go.

Thanks
