I saw on sigs web site that they have a converstion unit for the P229 40/9mm to .22. Does anyone have experience with this and how does the unit function? Any input would be helpful.

I've shot the conversion kit for the P226 on a friend's gun. It functioned fine for me and I liked it. However I have heard it's finicky about ammo brands and I do think it's a bit pricey, pretty much as expensive as a 22 pistol by itself. I'd shop around to find the best price or consider getting a separate 22.

I have one for my P229/9mm and it has worked well.

A bit pricey but... it works.

I like it as I am using the same trigger and grip as my 9 so it works well for practice...

The 22 conversion kit for my p229 works very well. It does require quality high velocity 22s. I bought mine a couple of years ago just before Christmas. For the past several years Sig has sold conversions factory direct for just under $250. A bit pricey still it gives me the same manual of arms as my carry weapon.
