.22 Caliber question

I had a friend show me a .22 round that was primer fired and not a rimfire. It was bigger then a .22LR and smaller then a .22 mag but he forgot what it was called.

I know someone here has to know the name, all that was on the case was REM UMC and the letters V & D. I get the REM UMC part but what about the V & D?

Agree with Steve's post above.

I would bet a penny it is the 5.5mm velo Dog Revolver cartridge.

Rem mfg, V D on head point that way.

Likely is a metal cased bullet.

Rather un PC these days. It was designed for use by bicyclists (Velo) to put down irritating dogs.

Ammo available untill about 1940.

AND COL. ASKINS, BLESS HIS HARD HEART, BOUGHT THE ENTIRE

U.S. SUPPLY FROM REMINGTON AROUND 1940 IF MEMORY SERVES AND PUT THE VELO-DOG INTO TARGET SHOOTING HISTORY.
Damn!!! Am I still the only one who'll say anything nice about one of the nicest professional mankillers the good ol' U.S. od A. has ever produced??!!

Thanks for the reply's, he said that Velo Dog was it as soon as he heard the name. The case is brass and it's a lead bullet.

Well that makes it even better, well in my eyes anyway...;)

Thanks Shawn for posting the question and thanks all for the answers...

I think I'll put it in a baggie and mark it so he won't forget again...:D

Thought the twilight zone had enveloped me (again) for a minute.

Mauserlady, you other half of "friend" who showed Shooter the shell ?

Or is it time for my meds ?

Sam,
Yes, she's the other half. I was over visiting when they showed me the round. Seeing how they helped me out with another project, I figured it was the least I could do to ask about the round.
