1911s with Full Dust Covers

Les Baer used to advertise in gun mags their 1911 with a full dust cover. For the longest of time, it just didn't look natural. Now, after all this time, it's really starting to grow on me. As soon as work settles down to a dull roar, my wife and I are going to visit their facility and take a look at one in person. I've never seen one anywhere so I'm guessing they're not that popular.

Any reason why this "feature" isn't sought after? Is it really that odd in person? I already have a Springer Loaded and was looking for something a bit different...

Tuttle8, I handled and fiered a friends monolith and have to say the stout loads he had brewed for it felt very tame due to the extra weight at the front of the gun. They have weird but confortable balance to them compared to a basic 1911.
I personaly would jump on one right away if ever made available in California.

Most 1911's are heavy enough as is but STI for example and a few others have fames with the full dust cover. Kinda kills the classic lines and adds a little unnecessary weight. They do look neat though.

Only Les Baer makes a single stack 1911 in this configuration...he has the patent.

I have owned a Monolith in 45acp and one in 40 S&W.

Great pistol...extra weight up front adds control and lessens muzzle flip.

Wonderful pistol, beautifully made and fitted. Try one and you will love it !

STI makes one:

They also make a double-stack version:

And a double-stack railed version:

Shooters Arms also makes a full-length dust cover model in 4.25" and 3.75" barrel lengths:

As you can tell, I too have a thing for the full-length dust covers.
