1911 barrel bushing problem

I recently acquired a kimber custom tle II from my brother who had installed a whichita barrel bushing/compensator and now I am having trouble disassembling the gun. I cannot rotate the bushing/comp far enough clockwise to remove the plug and spring. Is there any way to remove the bushing without taking out the plug and spring first. Thanks in advance

With the gun still fully assembled, slide the slide back to line up the slidestop groove on the slide with the slidestop. Hold the slide in place relative to the frame with your left hand and push out the slidestop with your right. Then the whole slide, barrel, bushing, and all, will slide off the front of the frame. Keep your fingers wrapped around the bottom of the slide as you remove it to keep pieces from flying under spring tension.

Kinda like this, except my slidestop won't pop out as easily as his did - I actually have to pull mine out.
