When hunting in thick woods with shotgun. should you have buckshot first and then a slug? Or slug fallowed by buckshot?

hey Im looking for a cheap good gun for coyote. where i live you can only shoot a max of .270 for rifle. so i think the 243 would be a great round for coyote. so what would be a good gun that is cheaper in price but i will have no problem picking off coyot in the farm fields in the area?

im going to be buying a new 870 soon and at my local gun smith he has an older model 870 their that he said i could buy with a new barrel or just get a brand new out of the box 870. Are the older models better made? Can you still do the cosmetic stuff with the old wingmaster?
