Pure Pb For Sale - IL (Chi)

I have a large supply of lead bricks (about 25-30 lb per). I live near chicago. I was hoping to get 1$ per lb for them. I may not be able to get them out right away, but I can have them in the mail by the weekend if needs are pressing. They will need to be alloyed with something to harden them...

    Cadmium

Has anybody tried alloying cadmium with lead? I imagine that its not a common thing that many people have but I recently acquired almost 100 lbs of it and am interested in its properties. I read on a patent article from the '20s that a .8 wt% alloy of Cd-Pb will yield same hardness as 3% Sn-Pb...

Odd no. of Grooves on a Slug

I just slugged my 357 mag (by taking 3 grains of 2400 and shooting into a pile of towels, worked like a charm) and i looked at the slug only to find that the slug has an odd number of groves (there is no groove completely opposing another to make measuring anything easily done). Have any of you...

Gap under sprue plate on lee mold

So on both of my lee molds, a 125 gr 9mm and a 200 gr swc, there are starting to be little flanges on the base of the bullets caused by what I suspect is a gap in the sprue and the top of the mold. Has anybody overcame this problem with some ingenious fix? I tried simply tightening the bolt at...

    Selling Bulk Brass

I know that you need a class 6 ffl to sell cast boolits to the public, but I don't know if that applies to brass too. I plan on getting brass in massive bulk (provided I can find a good source or two), keeping what I load for (at least some of them) and selling the remainder on auctions. I...

    Bloodwork Came in

The results are in! After realizing that I had sources of exposure that I wasn't previously aware of (mostly the meadia from tumblers) I thought I should get my lead level tested. I came in at 10.1 mcg/dL. Not horrible, but not great. I have some work to do in lowering it but i'm no longer...

    Tin?

So I called a local salvage yard to see if they have any tin for sale. They said that they do, I'd just have to go find it, and they'd charge 20c per pound. This sounds worth the trip if i can get only a few pounds, on account of the fact that I'd have to pay 18.00 per pound elsewhere. My...

It was all fun and games until...

...the sprue handle on my mold broke! So frustrating. I am using a lee 124gr LRN in 9mm that I got about 2 months ago. Fortunately I had already cast about 4,000 so I think I'm good for awhile :D . Anybody had this issue with a lee before? What can I hope for/expect when I call them tomorrow?

    Hardness on a Checked Bullet

So I am planning on loading 45/70 in the near future, and am going to put a GC on it. From my understanding, the gas check's job is to simulate that of a copper jacket and allow the use of cast at higher pressure loads. Would the alloy used need to be very hard if a GC was used? Obviously...

    Commercially Casting

I'm thinking about selling my cast boolits. I would sell them on Gunbroker or at a local gun show. What's the deal with liability? There are so many other more important factors involved with handloads than the any errors in the casting so I would assume it would be difficult to pin any mistakes...

    A new 38 / .357 Mold

I am about to start casting for the good ole wheel gun and am not sure what to get for a bullet mold. I run my magnum loads hot so I think I'm going to get a gas checked mold, rather than deal with making some super expensive alloy. Is this a good idea? Should I get the mold that has a gas check...

    General Bullet Alloying Questions

I'm looking at the specs for hardball (2-6-92) on MidwayUSA (as a refference) and they quote percentages of metals on it. Is this percent by weight or by volume? I would guess by weight, but would like to be certain. Second, I'm trying to find a local source for tin (ive allready given up on...

    Cylinder Leading in a .357

All, I hope this shouldn't be in the hand load section, but I think its more related to the general use of both 38 and .357. I have a S&W .357 Mag (I don't have the frame style handy because I'm out of town) and I've been experiencing what I believe to be leading in the cylinder of the...

    First day at the furnace

Whew! first day was a success. I got outside at about noon on saturday and smelted till about 430. It was a cooker here in the chicagoland area, about 95. It didn't help that i hadn't bought any kind of regulated cooking device so I was stuck using my parent's burn pit. It was a massive pain in...

New to Casting, a Few Q's

Hey All, I've recently acquired a very large quantity of lead of fairly pure (to my knowledge) composition. I'm trying to decide what components I should purchase for my casting setup. I've already ordered a pan and a pair of ingot moulds from MidwayUSA and will start doing some basic cleaning...

    Chambering problems in an AR15

Finally finished my first AR that I've been slowly building for about a year now. I bought a match upper the other day and for some reason, my rounds will not go in and come out of the chamber easily. The barrel I bought was made by a smaller independent manufacturer, with a Colt upper. I've...

    Brass processing

My least favorite part about reloading is triming the brass. Right now I use a Lee zip trim and a ball grip cutter, and champfer and deburr the case mouth. I can do the entire loading process in the time it takes to trim. Do any of you have a specific sequence that makes it quicker? I'm looking...

    How dissipointing is this...

I currently have a 357 revolver and a beretta 92fs and have been looking into investing my money and time into a semi decent 1911. Unfortunately i don't have the money for it now. I've was talking to a friend of mine about guns and she told me she had an older automatic pistol and wanted to get...

    2 AR Questions

These are assembly and preference related questions, and am hoping for a good discussion on these. 1) How nessecary is a foreward assist? From what I've seen, it's about 70-30 for guns that do and don't. Is it worth turning down an otherwise perfect upper for? 2) I'm trying to decide between...

    M4 Vs M16?

Is there a dfference? They look the same, same caliber, the M4 was developed in like the late 90's but the M16 is from the 60's (according to wikipedia). is there a difference with the parts or somethingl like that?
