New 308 rifle and questions about sizer bushings

I have a new 308 rifle for deer season and wanted to use it for target shooting the rest of the year. I already have a basic Redding full length die and seater set ordered. My question is about the redding bushing neck die, what is the most common bushing size for Lapua brass? I don't plan on...

What single thing do you feel gives you the most Accuracy from reloads?

Is it the quality of the Brass? trim style? neck turn? Is it your powder? how it's measured? Primers? hand prime? or Press mounted? Bullets? match? What step gives you most bang for your buck? Excluding your gun, what do you feel gives your reloads the most accuracy?

Does anybody have a source for the Hornady 53 Grain V-Max?

The BC is .290 and I would like to try some loads before the Varmits are out. I can't find it anywhere in in boxes of 100's or 250's. You need to get to the 68-69's to beat this BC..... Thanks, Don

New Black gun in 20 Pratical

Does anyone have any thoughts bad or good about this cartridge? It's basically a .223 round necked down to 20 cal. it is easily formed with one pass of a resize die. Best of both worlds, easily found brass, and higher BC:) of the smaller 20's. I was going to make a new upper for my current AR-15...

Question about twist rate and bullets for the 22-250

I got a new 22-250 awhile back and it came with 1-12 twist. Some exploring got me here. I can accuratly shoot 68 hornady's 69 Noslers and 69 Sierras. I just tried a 75 Hornady but got 2-4" groups @ 100. The 69 Noslers made a one hole group @ 100 Yards. I use 34.3 Grain of varget. Can somebody...

Does the cost of a specific powder determine if you use it?

If there was a magic powder that produced 1/4" groups in your rifle would you pay 5$ more per pound for it? Like say the Vihtavuori line of reloading powders. Be honest here, I have seen many different types of powders and found some that worked well and stayed with them. Never loaded VV myself.

What is your favorite 22 cal Varmit bullet and why?

I have really come to like the 55 grain V-Max in both my .223 and 22-250 loads. Medium weight Flat base bullet for semi windy days with devastating results. What do you find is more accurate in your guns?

To save your barrels has anyone used these temp strips?

BAR-L TEMPERATURE STRIPS Neco makes them, they stick to your barrel and tell you the temp as you are shooting. I shoot when it's hot and the squirrels are providing non-stop action. I think my .223 bolt gun heated up and never shot the same. If so when or what temp do you stop at and let the...

    Praire Dogs in December?

Heck Yes!!!!!! Dear Santa: Thank you for the Dumb Praire Dogs you placed in my fields today! Yes it's true, December 11, I shot 40+ dogs in the afternoon in N.E. Colorado It's the main reason I moved here, and 1 Coyote in the neighbor's yard/pasture in the AM The day had a high temp of...

What is the minimum rifle you would use?

I have a friend who states, "people on the east Coast hunt deer with AR-15's" we argue back and forth. I think the .223 is too small for deer and I had a friend who shot a 22-250 and wounded many only to cripple nice sized bucks. I feel it is not ethical to hunt with a .223 on any deer. The...

Trying to work up a new load

Someone suggested the ladder test, that raised more questions for me though. As I only shoot varmits and not targets or competitions I felt somebody here could answer my questions easier. I shot lots of powder in resolving my accuracy questions, 3 shot groups raised 2/10's of a grain starting...

Does anyone here use Reloader 10X in a .223 and their 22-250?

I just bought 5 lbs. and tried 50+ new loads for both today . After hearing and reading I thought it might be worth a try. I was impressed with the very accurate weights I got (I hand weight each new load) it seems to be very consistent. The 34 Grain Dogtown bullets from Midway are the goal to...

Number of loads per Pound of Powder

Loads Per Pound of Powder, this for the beginner is a great way to see your pet loads and the cost of the rifle to shoot them. For instance: .223 pet load for me is 20 grains of IMR 4198 with a 50 grain Powerlokt. With a pound of powder I get 350 loads. 22-250 pet load for me is 40 Grains of...

    Anybody using Wolf Primers?

Sometimes when it's all you can get locally I thought it might work in a pinch. I shoot the $4.00Wolf 22lr match and it's almost as good as Lapua $10.00, the quality is there. ( I need something to shoot between centerfire barrels cooling down) David Tubb uses them? In this article he said he...
