Don't "set your sights" on any specific pistols now

I decided to buy something new a few weeks ago. So I began my search for a Springfield Mil Spec. Nothing, nowhere. No problem, I will get myself another carry gun and get the Mil Spec in six months when they hit the shelves again. I have been looking at the CZ Rami in .40 S&W. Same...

Any first hand experience Para CWX645?

I am considering a Para Ordnance CWX645. I have always liked the look of the gun. I like the size for a small carry, the .45 for stopping power and the DAO trigger. Does anyone have any first hand experience with reliability/dependability on this model??

It may be a long wait for Springfield 1911 models

I have been looking for a Mil Spec 1911 for a while now. No one has any in stock locally. Most dealers are telling me at least a month or so. I just emailed Springfield customer service. They say all their 1911 models are on backorder. New orders could take up to six months to fill. WOW!

    Handgun shopping depression.

I just returned from another unproductive handgun shopping excursion. The show cases are empty, the prices have sky rocketed and the waiting lists are out of control. More than one gun store told me they are not even taking deposits on certain models. It is a bit scary at least here in NY...

    Price/availability check Springfield Mil Spec

I have been searching for Springfield Mil Spec for a few weeks now. The local stores are out. Davidson's shows zero, Buds Gun Shop zero. I really don't want to buy it online because with shipping and FFL fees it gets pricey. Some of the local FFL's have raised there price to receive a hand...

    Going to buy a 1911

I decided recently to add a 1911 to my collection. This gun will NOT be a carry gun. That roll is filled. This will be a "because" gun. Because I want it. That being said, I am trying to decide between a few brands. Taurus is on the table. They have a fairly feature packed 1911. They...

    Considering my next purchase

Heres the story, I feel the need to add one more handgun to my collection. I already have three revolvers (two S&W J frame .38, one Taurus 605 .357). So I am ok on the revolver side. My semi auto collection includes a Beretta model 87 .22, Browning BDA .380, AMT Backup .380, Glock 23 .40...

Suggestion for a Recall Thread or sticky

In light of all the recent recall notices,(Ruger LCP, Ruger SR9, EAA Witness....) I would enjoy seeing an area for dealing with these issues. As an owner of a EAA Witness Tanfoglio, I just accidentally stumbled on the Witness firing pin notice that is being handled as a "Safety Upgrade". If I...

    Tripod recommendation for spotting scope

I just ordered a new spotting scope and I need a recommendation on a tripod for it. I am looking for a small table top model. The scope is a Celestron C90. It weighs a bit over three pounds. I know the importance of a stable tripod, however, I am not looking to spend a fortune. I will...

    Another lunatic with a gun

It happens way too often. Some looser has a bad day, takes his frustrations and his loaded 9MM out for a drive then road rages his way to jail. It happened locally here on Long Island, NY yesterday. Some of you may have heard about it. Each and every time you hear of these brandishing (or...

    NRA assistance or involvement

I know the NRA is the 800 pound gorilla in our corner and on our side. I believe and I belong. My question is, have any of our TFL members received any personal assistance from the NRA with respect to CCW licensing? Has anyone been wrongfully denied or restricted in the class of their CCW...

Need a quiet pest rifle suggestion

Ok, here is the situation. I have been using high powered springer air rifles for years to do some squirrel exterminating. I stopped for a about two years and the population is out of control. I have occasions where there are four or five in about a 2000 square feet area. Springer air guns...

    Bushmaster AR-15 Trigger

I took my Bushmaster to the range for the first time the other day. It is so sad to have a rifle for over a year and not have the time to shoot it. Overall, the gun was great. On paper quickly, accurate and a fun shooter. One big minus that I sort of expected was the trigger. Wow, what a...

Celestron C65 Mini Mak spotting scope?

Does anyone have any experience with the Celestron C65 Mini Mak spotting scope? From what I can read it is a good design (Maksutov-Cassegrain Optical Design). I am not expecting too much from a $60.00 unit. I don't want to spend a fortune on a one. I intend to use it at 200 yards for target...

Recommendations needed on economy spotting scope

I am looking for an inexpensive spotting scope. The primary usage will be my AR-15 (in .223) at distances of 100-200 yards. It will be rare to shoot it at 300, however I may. Any recommendations on brand, model or design types to look for would be appreciated. I searched this forum but found...

    Re: Rust Removal

Re: Rust Removal About a month ago JOHNKSA posted a how to on rust removal. He recommended 0000 steel wool dry. For all of you that were skeptical, I became your crash test dummy. I needed to remove some light rust with very minimal pitting. I am pleased to report that the method described...

What's in your Bug Out Bag?

Unfortunately, I live in an area where bugging out may be a reality for more than a few reasons. Long Island, NY is at risk to hurricanes (well overdue for a severe one by meteorologist standards), terrorist attacks because of our close proximity to NYC, floods, storm surge and lengthy power...

Recommendations on NY (Downstate) Firearms attorney

Some posts have surfaced recently from the New York area regarding 2A issues. If anyone has experience with a competent firearms attorney in the downstate NY area it may be helpful to post his/her information. I am in the process of contacting the NRA for some recommendations also.
