    ROA windfall

Got kind of lucky at a local auction a little while ago, and came home with 3 new (to me) ROA's. Luck was enhanced by the fact that all my competitors outbid me on some other really fine stuff early in the auction, so when these came up, they didn't have any money and I did. Also, my position...

    .457 round balls needed

We're having a club 'fun shoot' this Saturday (4/19), and I've promised to bring a couple Walkers and a couple of Ruger Old Armies to entertain some of the geezers that haven't experienced the better arms. I've been loading up some speed loader tubes so I'll have a couple hundred rounds...

    ROA Grips needed

I have recently become the owner of 3 Ruger Old Army revolvers (blued), which, strangely enough, do not have grips. I intend to equip at least one with American Holly, and the other two are open to whatever comes along that I find attractive - probably walnut, but a nice birdseye maple or even...

Shipping black powder firearms to Michigan

A member mentioned (in an earlier thread) that Traditions refuses to ship black powder firearms to Michigan. Indeed, in the description of each black powder firearm they sell, their web site lists Michigan as one of several states to which black powder firearms cannot be shipped. I recently...

    Closing thread was not appropriate

4v50Gary closed a thread (How do I sell my muzzle loader) on the Black Powder forum because the OP didn't have enough posts to advertise. I take exception to that action. The OP was not advertising his gun on the forum. He asked a question about how to sell a black powder rifle, which, in my...

    SIG P220 in .45, P226 in 9mm and P232SAS in .357SIG - opinions?

This weekend I have the opportunity to buy ONE of the following: Sig Sauer P220 in .45 cal, Sig Sauer P226 in 9 mm, or, Sig Sauer P239SAS in .357 SIG. Plan for use: CC & non-compete target shooting.. Which ONE (or, none ) would you buy? OOPS! Typo. It's a P239SAS, not a P232.:o

    Traditions revolver manufacturer

The following has also been published on The High Road and Black Powder Times black powder forums: The discussion (sometimes debate and, thankfully rarely, argument) in the black powder forums regarding what company is the 'better' manufacturer of firearms is seemingly endless. This is actually...

What's the problem with shooting in the rain?

In the thread "I gots the good stuff!!" two members (arcticap & deerslayer303) express the hope that it doesn't rain Monday when they plan to go shooting. Then keybear asks the question, "Your (sic) going to shoot in the rain?" I followed that with "What's wrong with shooting in the rain?", and...

    Bpstuffllc

Has anyone had any communication with Tom at bpstuffllc.com lately? I ordered some round balls from him back in early October; when I hadn't heard anything three weeks later I emailed him and got a response that he had gotten a large order and was very busy with it, but he'd get on mine as soon...

    New Mk4 Series 70

I've just come upon an unfired nickel Colt Mk4 Series 70 Government Model; s/n says it was made in the early 70's. This will be my first 1911, my first .45ACP, and my first semiauto handgun. What problems am I likely to encounter and what are the solutions?

Goex found at Bass Pro in Auburn Hills, MI

Went into the Bass Pro Outdoor World store at Great Lakes Crossing yesterday to get a couple of bricks of .22LR's and was shocked to find 3 cans of Goex real bp (one each of ffg, fffg, & ffffg) ON THE SHELF! $20/lb, which is outrageous, but still - out on the shelf where any terrorist could get it.

    BP Price Survey 1/9/2009

Here are the results of a survey of real black powder prices that I did while sitting in a motel room enroute to an auction last Friday. First, the price by supplier: Deleted, see post dated 1/13/09 Next, the same data sorted by brand: Deleted, see post dated 1/13/09 Note: These are...

    Some friendly advice

Just a quick word of advice - something you probably knew anyway, but I thought I'd mention it: If you don't put the nipples back in the cylinder, the chambers will not hold the powder. And it will come pouring out all over your foot at the loading table with everyone watching you. They will...

    Cap sizes

I posted this on The High Road forum just a little while ago in response to a question about cap sizes; it's reposted here for information: Big surprise here - not the results I expected. I measured inside diameter at the lip and overall length (height?) of each of 20 CCI No. 10, CCI No. 11...

    1851, 1860, 1861 Colt trigger/bolt wire spring

A number of posts on this and other forums have mentioned going to wire trigger/bolt springs to smooth the action and for increased reliability/longevity. Brownell's was specifed as the source. I have not been able to find such springs on the Brownell site using their search option. Does anyone...
