Cleaned my Sub 2000 the other day and saw something I had not noticed before. See the pix.
The ring you see is not the chamber edge. Its about 2" beyond the chamber edge. You can vaguely see the chamber edge as a dark semicircle in the larger picture. The ring appears to NOT be a protrusion...
I have shot about 1k of these through a Sub 2000, Charter Pitbull and G27. Never did any expansion testing, though. Just curious whether this design will expand? Anyone try it?
I ask because I have Unique and TiteGroup, and I found out by experience that Unique is lousy with light loads. Unburnt powder everywhere.
Will I have the same problem with TiteGroup?
Don't wanna have to buy a new powder, but may be persauded, if some powder excels at lite load in pistols...
A bit of background. I've always been a semi-guy. My handguns are all either fun, or CCW. No handgun hunting planned. My only revolver is a S&W 31 in .22. Love the dang thing for plinking and fun.
Thinking about adding a more serious revolver to the collection. Was looking for something...
About 3 months ago I was able to find a Sub 2000 at a local gun store. I've been looking for almost a year. Glad to find it.
Sights were well-regulated out of the box, for 165 gr. loads. I found best accuracy at 25 yards was with a handload using 135gr. Nosler HP bullets (and a MAX load of...
When I went shooting yesterday, one batch of bullets was obviously under-loaded. Would not cycle the action on my pistol.
First time this has happened to me in 8 years of reloading. I went home determined to diagnose the problem. Didn't take long. When I poured powder into the measure...
I just started reloading for my Sb 2000 in .40. 16" barrel. So I'm thinking I need a slower powder. I've used TiteGroup (didn't seem to like the long barrel) and Unique (much better.) But neither meters very well. So I guess I'm looking for:
-Good Metering
-Good performance in longer...
My wife works with our Church’s Young Women’s program. She told me they wanted to try shooting clays. Color me happy.
So I got to thinking about which shotguns to bring. And it occurred to me I didn’t have a small 20ga. In the safe. I also have some grandkids who are getting to be that age...
Just idle curiosity on my part. Heavy bullets in a rifle with a big case typically like slow powders, right? I'm thinking .30-06 with 220gr. bullets and up.
So why do shotguns, which throw a 1.oz. plus shot cup, and operate at lower pressures, use faster powders? Wouldn't a slow powder give...
Bad reloading session this weekend. Loaded about 150 rounds of .223. Plinking load. Mixed brass that had all been reloaded several times before. AND a batch of 30 once-fired N.P.A brass. Greek, IIRC. Winchester 55gr bullets with cannelure.
Of the 30 NPA brass, all but 8 of them had bad...
Had fun shooting my CETME today. But with a scope, it needs a higher cheek comb. I need a replacement for the standard buttstock. I have seen pix of some that have adjustable combs. Any idea where to find one? Midway had nothing listed.
Another successful quail hunt today. After taking off work just a couple hours early. Half hour drive, 2 hour hunt. Man, I love Idaho...
So I'd like to try a new recipe or two with this batch. What's your favorite?
Don't know if YOUR Cabela's has this special, but I just bought H335 for $17.99/lb. That's the 1lb jugs. Don't think they carry 8 pounders.
Never seen it this low in 10 years.
I have been enjoying Quail season, using 7.5 shot. Birds I shoot close are pretty beat up. Local store had size 8 for less...
Is 8 too small for quail? Too small for longer shots? I would think the patterns would be a bit denser...
Just curious whether you hunt upland with hearing protection.
I never have, but as I get older, I get more concerned about such stuff. After a successful quail hunt, my ears felt a bit "cottony", which I believe is a danger sign.
Had a great quail opener yesterday. Posted about it in the Hunting forum. Took my old, well used twin trigger SxS. It reminded me why a twin is the best tool for upland.
You can use 2 different chokes--one for the closer, first shot, and a tighter one for the longer follow-up. Or, if...
I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to hunt today. I work in Scouts, and one of my scouts had his Eagle project this morning. So I knew I’d be painting fire hydrants till noon.
Then I had promised my wife I’d do some garage cleaning. That booked me till 2pm. Then there was a not-to-be-missed...
Didn't see this on the board.
Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, has already said this is one of his major issues. He does not believe the 2nd Amendment gives individuals the right to bear arms. Please vote on this gun issue question with USA Today. This upcoming year will become...
Just a heads up for those blessed to live within driving range of a Cabelas. I went in to buy some components today, and got:
1. lb of H335 for $19.79. Haven't see that price since---ever.
2. 55gr. .223 FMJ w/ cannelure for $7.99 per hundred. You can beat that online, but its a dang good...
Most powder measures are volumetric. Uniflow, Autodisk, pretty much all of them except the electric powder dispensers with integrated scale, throw a charge based on volume, not weight.
Of course, you weigh the charge and adjust the volume to get the weight you want.
BUT....
What do you do...
