    7 & 8 shot 1911 mags

The factory mags for my standard sized 1911's all have a 7 shot capacity. Consequently, I've never bought anything but. However, the aftermarket is full of quality brand 8 shot capacity mags. Do these protrude past the bottom of the mag well, or are there any disadvantages to them?

A question for you AK owners

I have a Saiga rifle in 7.62 x 39. This gun is patterned after the infamous AK/Kalashnikov rifle, and is made by Izhmash in Russia. The bolt does not/is not designed to stay open on an empty mag. Does a standard AK47/74 hold open after the last round is fired?

Saiga scope mount - need help

I'm having problems with my Saiga quick detach scope mount for my Saiga 7.62x39. I've adjusted it per the factory instructions for a snug fit on the side rail, but can't seem to get a repeatable zero with it. Getting much better performance and consistency from the iron sights right now...

    Ruger P95 Hi-Caps?

Thought I'd buy a few 15 round mags for my Ruger P95. I'm not finding much variety outside of brands like USA, and ProMag. Does anyone have brand/source recommendations specific to the P95 based on experience?

    Springfield "Loaded" Mainsprings

My Springfield Loaded 1911 .45 model has a heavy trigger pull. So I ordered some lighter mainsprings from a reputable dealer, only to discover that they don't fit. Apparently, the spring used in the lockable mainspring housing is of a different length than the 1911 standard. Am I wrong, has...

Best way to clean lead fouling?

I just started experimenting with lead bullet reloading, and am experiencing lead fouling problems in the throat and cylinder of my stainless GP100. I've been using a Hoppes lead remover tool (Lewes?), but am afraid that repeated use might damage the rifling. How do you clean for this problem?

    Lead fouling - Help!

I just started experimenting with lead bullets, only to discover that these .38 Special loads are leaving deposits in, and on, my stainless 6" GP100 after each 100 rounds. I'm using 158 Gr LRNs from NBC, these are hardcast and reputedly of good quality. I have tried several loadings of...

    AA #9 powder?

I've been happy with the shooting results using AA#9 powder in my .357 and .44 mag loads. However, AA#9 is a very fine ball-type powder that likes to leak out of my measures. I notice that other people use H110 and W296. Are these powders also of the fine ball type? I'm looking for a powder...

    Springfield Armory Quality Control

I just took delivery of a NIB 2001 model Springfield Armory 45 full size from a reputable local dealer. I disassembled the gun for it's initial inspection, cleaning and lube before firing. I discovered a horrible tooling mark on the front portion of the guide rod, four or five parallel rows of...

    New Springfield 45

I'm picking up my new 2001 SA .45ACP 1911, fullsize SS on the way home tonight. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited. I've often read that generically speaking, 1911's may require a "break-in" period before they will function reliably. Is this true of the Springfield .45s? I'd feel more...

    Taurus Model 66 anyone?

Last night, I saw a new Taurus Model 66 .357, 6" blued w/ adj sights for just over $300. I'm thinking that at this price, even ZeusOne can afford a second 357. Anyone have any comments on this particular piece? Accuracy, overall feel, etc? My frame of reference here is a 6" SS GP100.

    Grips for Ruger P95

I really like my Ruger P95. However, the all-synthetic frame can be slippery to hold onto under various conditions. Anyone have any experience with the following aftermarket, slip over tube grips? 1) Hogue Handall 2) Pachmayr Slip On w/finger grooves Your comments on chemical resistance...

    M44 Mosin-Nagant bolt sticks

I have a Hungarian M44 Mosin-Nagant 7.62x54R. I bought it as a beater, but I have grown to love it for some reason. Only difficulty is this: After the trigger has been pulled and the firing pin has released, the bolt handle is extremely difficult to rotate upwards and open. This happens...

    Ruger Mag capacity

My Ruger P95D 9mm came with two mags, both of which hold 8 rounds a piece. All is well, and bang-for-the-buck, I like this pistol allot. However, I notice that the Ruger website and catalog advertise this model with 10 shot capacity mags. Am I missing something (again!), or has anyone else...

    Redhawk or Super?

I will soon be adding a .44 mag to my Ruger collection. It'll be SS with the 7.5" barrel, but I can't decide between the Redhawk or Super Redhawk. The Redhawk is more visually appealing to me, while the Super's extra beef seems to make functional sense. Which model would you buy, and why...
