    Acceptable Precision

If we take the theory that accuracy is that of the rifle system you use and precision is the ability of the shooter to put those shots where they are supposed to go, what do you, as a hunter, consider acceptable precision? That is, at what distance (Energy to kill not being a factor) do you...

    Stag Based 6.5CM and 308Win

Last year, I accumulated the parts for a new large frame AR. Bought every part on sale, or already had it. My goal was to match, as much as possible, the two uppers for ballistics out to about 600 yards. Taking data from prior rifles, this is what I came up with. Both uppers are about 1 MOA...

Load development for the 280 AI

A post from another thread reminded me that I told a few folks here I'd update them on the .280AI, but then life happened and I forgot. Condensed refresher is that I had been a big fan of the .280AI, but no longer owned one. So when Bergara offered it in their barreled action, I ordered one...

    What Gauge? Project

I've started working on a little project on Shotguns for this year. My goal is to create a 6 part video series that delves into the "multi-tool" firearm, the shotgun. I'll cover shooting fundamentals in 2 of them, action types in 1 and then the games one can play with them in 2 of them. But 1...

    A little talk about triggers

In another thread I responded to a post with... My reply was not specific enough. I should have said that if changing to a "lighter" trigger improved a shooters group size, they most likely have a issue with fundamentals. In that case, they would be better served with a case of ammo and some...

    CO State HS Trap Championship

Missed the repeat as Team State Champions at the Colorado State HS Trap Championship today. But my top athlete won HOA and the Title of State Champion. Next month, we'll take a run at Nationals and then he is off to College on a Shooting Scholarship.

    Colorado CompX

It's a new thing by combining 4 shooting events with a huge sponsor row. It's new, and soon, but it will grow in several ways over the next few years. https://compexpo.org/

    Colorado CompX

CompX is a new event that brings together multiple disciplines at a single range combined with events for spectators and a large sponsor/vendor row. The inaugural CompX will be held August 2-8, 2021 at Cameo Shooting Sports Park in Palisade Colorado. Already an impressive facility, once...

    Local News Story on Trap

Rennick is a three year competitor on my Trap team and is the first from the school, and we think the Denver Metro to get a full ride to college to shoot trap. The sports anchor spent 3 hours with us at the range, and I even got to teach him how to shoot trap. He had never touched a gun before...

    1990s SD Ammo "Hotness"

A friend posted his photo of some Black Talons, and someone just posted on some Super Vels. I scrounged up a few relics...some "Cutting Edge" defense ammo from the 1990s. Yeah millennials, way before you needed 1000 rolls of TP. :) Some of this came from Evan Marshall for some testing I was...

    Who Drives?

It is a foregone conclusion that the few times we venture out in the next month, the full med kit and at least one long gun are going with. But who drives? My wife is a decent driver, but not aggressive. My wife is a decent shooter, but not at my skill level. I have two boys (16 and 18) that...

Reloadr Scale Out of the Box Comparison

If you are like me, you have gone through as many scales as a small goldfish. I have several, one next to each press and 3 "spares". Sometimes I just can't resist buying a new one, but usually I am disappointed. Measurements Lab and Metrology Labs tend to make one a "measurement snob" I guess...

    Do you "Document" your training?

General question for discussion, as I am sure there is not a perfect answer... Do you document, in some manner that could be presented as evidence, your training? Mil and LE have their qualifications as do most armed security companies for their employees. Would one think that it is akin to...

    Changes at the Whittington Center

If you have never been, it is a wonderful facility with all kinds of shooting. But if it has been on your bucket list, it appears you better get there soon because a lot of changes, not good for competition shooting, which is why it was founded, are occurring under the new Director...

    Federal Gold Medal Grands

Federal recently brought out a new paper (red) and plastic (skived white) family of 12g shotshells called Grands. I have tested them quite a bit on pattern boards, Trap, 3Gun, Sporting Clays and they are legit. Some of the best shells I have shot. The shot column is a bit shorter, the pellet...

    Semi-Auto or O/U in the $1k to $1.5K Range

Just curious what those of you with 50K+ rounds of shotgun under your belt would choose, and why. General Purpose shotgun for the Clay target games and upland bird hunting on generally nice days. Call it a Gentleman's shotgun. No waterfowl or defense considerations at all. I'd like to know...

    Aguila Cup 2018

Held in South America the past few years, it is coming to Texas in 2018. This promises to be the premier competition shooting event of the year. Texas Armament & Technology (TxAT) and Aguila Ammunition will be hosting the inaugural Aguila Cup multi-discipline shooting sports tournament June...

    Three new to me

So the father of one of my wife's friends decided to sell off his hunting shotguns. Originally had 4, but gave one to his son. Ended up with 2 I am okay with and 1 that I have always wanted. BPS 12g with screw-in chokes, Mossberg 20g Pump mod barrel, Ithaca 37 Featherlite 16g mod barrel. :D
