    CC Permit question

I have not carried a weapon 'on the street' since I was in the US Army but I am now considering it. Since Jan 2010 I have either been hospitalized or going back & forth to Cleveland Clinic for leukemia treatments. At present I am staying in the Cleveland area as I recover from 2nd stem cell...

    help with Finn M39

Recently purchased a really nice looking Finn nagant recently at a gunshow (1944 VKT) which appeared to have a mint bore. Upon closer inspection after getting it home I noticed the inside diamteter of the barrel is slightly enlarged from the point where the front sight is mounted to the muzzle...

    Loads for 45-70 Siamese mauser

Loads for 45-70 Siamese mauser ? I recently aquired a very nice conversion (see pics). The handloading manuals vary considerably in terms of heavier loads for 'modern rifles' (beyond the Marlin levergun models). Just how much farther is what I'm interested in. Any advice would be appreciated.

chamber dimensions of 7.62x39 CZ rifle (?)

Just bought a CZ527 in 7.62x39 and began working up a load for it - noticed the bolt was hard to close on all but the cheap Russian ammo - appears the chamber is not reamed to Saami specs but rather, some other (military?) spec. Looking at the cartridges - the Russian ammo appears to have a...

    CZ527 or Savage 16FSS in .223 ?

I want a lightweight but accurate bolt gun as a back-up for shooting prarie dogs. Can't decide bewteen a Savage 16FSS and the beautiful little CZ527. I know the Savage is accurate, ugly, and will get the job done. Everytime I see one of the CZ's I am hard-pressed not to take it home but I...

    Concealed Carry fringe benefits ?

I was at a business meting recently in Houston and one of the people I met said that he had his TX CCP not because he carried, but because he found it helped when dealing with law enforcement - i.e when stopped for speeding he showed the patrol officer his divers lic. and his CCP. They got into...

    scopes on AK47 variants

I have a VEPR II in 7.62x39 and it shoots very well. I added Mojo peep sights and I often get the first three shots from a cold barrel under 1 inch at 100 yds with cheap Russian ammo - even better with handloads. The VEPR has a scope mount on the receiver, so I went and bought one of those...

    CCW why?

I see lots of CCW posts and I often wonder why people would want the responsibility to carry and control a lethal weapon under most circumstances. I know a person who was somewhat paranoid and 'carried' a Glock (not sure what model it was). He apparently carried it much of the time except at...

    The truth about Iraq

OK - we have all heard why we need to stay the course in Iraq and help establish the new democracy. But now we see that a 2 year-old report from our own Intelligence Community predicted the escalating carnage we see in Iraq. The report says that the insurgency in Iraq is based deeply within...

    Gas trap AR

So someone decided to make the AR more like the AK. About time. Too bad MacNamara and his boys didn't do this back in 1967. Could have saved a lot of grunts.

    garand loads

The best powder for the M1 is probably !MR4895 but there are other loads suitable that will not over-pressure the gas piston/oprod. The attached is a scan from NovDec '95 American Rifleman article on 30-06 Service Loads.

    how many cartridges for Varget?

I keep hearing people rave about Varget. I know it works well for the .223. Does anyone have experience with it in 6.5x55 ? These are the cartridges I shoot most often and I would love to buy one powder for both.

political correctness on the firing line

Blues Man seems a little PC (shutting down the 'feel safer?' thread). Or maybe I just didn't understand the rules on this website. I guess it's OK to express strong opinions as long as they are right-wing and consistent with whatever it is Blues Man believes.

how much for a VEPR ?

 Saw a really nice 'like new' VEPR K with factory muzzle brake in a gunstore yesterday. Really liked it. Had not really looked at the higher quality AKs before. They want $599 for it and it isn't new. It does however, appear the owner never fired it. Is this too much ? Are new...

    feel safer?

    > 180,000 new fed employees to staff Homeland Security Dept. > our borders remain open from the north and south > inept response to an actual homeland disaster when it does occur (Katrina) > busy fighting war #2 with a Muslim nation with no end in sight > $425 billion deficit in Y2005 alone...

    pricey winchester 94 - a good buy ?

Winchester lever guns have flown off the shelves around here. There is one of the pricey case-colored 'trails end' models in 38-55 left at the local Gander Mt. Would this be a good investment (as new firearms investments go) ?

    How long?

 How long does it take to get one of those CC&R license applications approved by our friends at the ATF ? Do I have to wait 30-days after receiving it before I can use it? Do distributors honor it (where it is applicable) ? Just curious.

    Steyr 'bushing' problem

A friend has a near-new Steyr-Mannlicher with a strange problem. The bolt won't close - stops at about the last 1/4 inch before closure. He said he read something in the owners manual about a "bushing near the opening of the chamber that may come loose as a result of improper cleaning..."...
