    could a sig 232 handle the 9x18?

I ask because with the plethora of small .380's out there, I look at my perfectly reliable and beatifully made 232 and think, "you are over engineered". I can't help but think it could handle a hotter cartridge from the mass difference alone from say a Seecamp .380. Would the hotter chambering...

    cool new pocket auto mfg'er

http://www.diamondbackfirearms.com/ Handled one in Hoover, AL at Hoover Tactical. Literally a pocket Glock. No slide stop, retails at $380. I was told they tested their demo pretty hard and could not get a jam.

something 1911's got right that glock has missed so far

I finally saw a RTF glock and realized this was a pretty weak alteration. I remembered that when i first got into guns, 1994, all 1911's basically had rounded mainsprings and crap sights. unbeveled mag wells were standard too. the 1911 manufacturers seemed to take notice that the custom shops...

    new sig 228r

my local pusher has a few imported sig 228r in 9mm. They do not sell these in the U.S. anymore and sent 1,500 over of which he scored 3. Is this a must have? I really like sigs and have 1, but is this a rare piece to own new at this time?

    glock 17 vs 17L vs 34

saw a glock17L at academy and got to wondering...is there notable accuracy differences between these models? 17L seems to have a longer barrel than the 34. as a pure range piece, is the 17L the pick of the litter?

    Retro s&w model 18

Anyone seen this on the Smith website? A .22 combat masterpiece...with a lock hole on the side. They are suggesting $1,000 for a price and my GunValues book lists a vintage model 18 prelock for around $700-800. Nice gun, but the lock + the recession makes this dream gun a little further away for...

smith new classic model 58 anyone?

I can't say I am in or not, but the idea of that bada$$ model 10 on steroids is such a cool gun. I don't much about the .41 other than my shooting friends say recoil can be stout. This was always one of the old Smiths I wanted to handle and see in person. Any interest...

ever shot an animal with your carry gun...

and been seriously underwhelmed? I shot a Canadian Goose from "combat distance" with a .380 hollowpoint, dead center mass, and he ran around and quacked for 30 seconds before expiring. Shot an armandillo with a .38 +P out of a 6" Smith and he ran 20 yards back in his hole. When I pulled him out...

tell me about the Single Six in .22

is this a fun gun? does reloading six rounds at a time single action style get old fast? how many use the magnum cylander often? This gun is freaking calling me and I want to know what is up with it. My other choice would be a S&W 617 but the cost is higher.

best daily carry revolver NOT in pocket

of those of you who tote revolvers on your belt or shoulder, what is the best of breed. Yes I have a 638 that rides in pocket almost all of the time, but beyond the pocket what is best? I have only belt carried a Smith 66 in 4'' and Colt Cobra.

love for the N Frame, but why not big ol' Colts?

Just curious as to why there seem to be folks that own 5-10 N frames and never seem to see the big frame Colts in DA much? Lots of Pythons, and Det Specials at the shows, and I own a Cobra personally. I really like the big frame Colts with no underlug and fixed sights, but the never seem to...

    new s&w 5'' model 63 half lug

anyone seen this on smith's website? I would link it but not at my own computer. 8 shot half lug 5'' barrel. I will have one of these...

    a GP 100 I wish i had

circa 2003, gun shop in Randleman,NC. I saw and handled a blued 4 inch round butt half lug GP100 in .357. For some reason I was such a Smith snob at the time I thought better of the purchase, but now I like Rugers and particularly fixed sight revolvers. Since then I have never even seen a...

new model 40-no lock make a difference?

would the fact that the new model 40 has no internal lock persuade any of you to buy? I am really thinking about making one my next gun due to this feature (or lack of). What do you think? I carry a 638, but would use this gun at the range a whole lot more than the airweight.

suggestions on colt cobra custom project

I recently acquired a colt cobra that is somewhat of an oxymoron. lightweight frame-3" heavy barrel full shroud. I was wondering how difficult it would be to have a 3" "pencil" barrel off of another colt d frame or a spare barrel put on and replace the heavy barrel. it shoot well, it points...

    so let's rank the snubs

in pure ccw practicality. I suggest that the Smith J frame gets the nod, particularly the airweight Bodyguard/shrouded hammer model. I cannot find a reason not to carry it even with shorts and flip flops. Next I would put the Colt Cobra, the airweight Dick Special. Mine is a 3" heavy barrel...

    1917 advice

my Cabela's has one of the new retro 1917's in blue for $799. i am amazed by the lack of weight to this revolver. The only thing that kept me from jumping on it was this; i have no dealings with the new key lock smiths and MIM parts. Are they that big of a deal. the rest of my revolvers are...

    has sig fixed the mosquito?

owned one. loved it til I shot it and it would cycle properly. Thankfully sold it before word got out about them and it became Gander Mtn's problem. However for what I would like, the mosquito platform would be perfect if they cleaned up reliability issues. Anyone know?

tell me the truth re: moonclips

i am going to be able to purchase one more pistol before our babies are due. Feb 2008 due date. I am strongly attracted to the S&W thunder ranch model 22, but have had no expirience with moonclips nor do I know anuone who has. Are they a pain in the arse to fool with? How tough are they? Do they...
