    Redhawk or Super Redhawk?

Looking at the Ruger web site it appears these two with 7.5" barrel and in .44 mag have similar weight (the Super a little more), the Redhawk can have scope mounts in the Hunter model, I like the Hogue grips so those would need to be purchased seperatlely. Both can handle the heavy stuff from...

    Balance beam scale innacurate-sometimes...

Just recently while using the "check weights" I noticed every weight is fine up to a combined weight of 22 grains, then it goes off by about .3 to .4 grains! The scale (Redding #2) has always been treated well, never used anything to clean it except a cotton cloth; is stored in a cabinet so it...

Loads for 34 gr. 204 ruger

Anybody using the 34 gr. 20 cal bullets from Midwayusa or Midsouth (Varmint Express or Varmint Nightmare)? I have tried to work up a load with RL15 because it has been fabulous with Hornady 32 & 40 V-Max, but not so good with these. I did notice better accuracy with COL of 2.24" (3/4" to 1") vs...

    Turrets moving?

Is there any way-besides tape-to prevent the W & E turrets from moving? I did an internet search but have not found anything even at places like Brunos, Midway and Brownells. All but one of my scopes have caps that thread over the adjustment part, and my varmint scope has those tall 'external'...

    Dogtown 34 gr. loads?

Is anybody shooting the Midway Dogtown 34 gr. 20 cal bullet in a 204 Ruger? I can find loads for the Berger 35 using Hodgdon powders but I have lots of RL 15 (CCI 450 primers & Rem brass) so would prefer to use that. From looking at burn rates/loads for Varget looks like I could use about .7...

Are the barrrels the same on AR's as on Bolt rifles?

Can you folks tell me if the barrels on AR type rifles (DPMS, Bushmaster etc.)are made any different than on a bolt gun? A friend told me when we were shooting p-dogs last year that he could keep shooting his Bushmaster without fear of ruining the barrel even though it (barrel) was very hot...

    My first "nice" shotgun-a Cynergy!

Got my first "nice" shotgun ever, a Browning Cynergy Field. It is a 20 ga w/26" tubes and the Inflex recoil pad. Can hardly believe how it points-like an extension of my arm. Got it from CDNN for $1299 (my local dealer gets 1799). This was their last 20 ga Cynergy but still have some 12's and...

    Mauser model 96 or 98 ???

I have a 6.5 X 55 Swede. It is stamped 1942 and made by Husqvarna. My question is: Is this considered a 96 or 98 model Mauser? I've had one guy tell me it is considered a 96 Model and therefore when reloading I should back off 1.0 grains from whatever the manuals show as max and consider this...

    Finding OAL

:)I just read a useful article in the July Guns/Ammo mag. It was written by John Haviland, in it he describes a way to determine your OAL for a particular bullet/cartridge. Previously I had read of coloring a bullet with a marker or "smoking" it with a candle, but I was never really satisfied...

    Minimum cartridge OAL?

I read and hear folks talk about MAX OAL , but is there such a thing (within reason of course) as MIN OAL? For example with my 6.5 X 55 Swede, the max OAL is 3.15, however if I load some Barnes XLC 120's at 2.89" and Rem CoreLok 120's also to 2.89 which is well below the cannelure, both loads...

Why choose the .222 over t he .223?

For those of you that have a .222 Rem, why did you choose it over the .223 Rem? My .204 Ruger is fabulous for prairie dogs, but have been considering getting another p-dog rifle. Maybe I'll just get another .204, but I've also been considering a different caliber (just because) like the .19's...

    Hornady SST bullets?

Anybody have any experience with the Hornady SST bullets? I want to use the 129 gr. in my 6.5 x 55 Swede. For powders I was going to try H4350 and IMR 4350, maybe RL 15 and RL 19.

    Kel-Tek magazine release problem

I have a P3-AT, and love it's very light weight, slim profile and 100% reliability. BUT, the button for the mag release sticks out and when I have it in my pocket, and bump something at work (I work alone most of the time) it releases the magazine. I sent it back to KT, and they installed a...

    .204 Ruger load & groups

Had my best shooting yet with my .204 Ruger. It has a 1 in 12 twist and according to Hornady the 32 V-Max should be more accurate than the 40's, and this has been true with me. Attached are two pics of groups and one of me with the rifle. I shot this with 28.6 gr. of RL 15 and 29.2 of RL 15...

    Is this "cheap" gas?

Paid "only" $2.28 for 87 octane this morning at Sams Club in central Phoenix, never thought I would consider it a good price. Just 3 weeks ago it was 2.75. If ever an oil exec. has their swimming pool or spa serviced they better not complain about $65-$85 an hour plus parts!

    Anyone reloading the .204 Ruger?

Anyone have any good recipes for their .204 ruger? Very interested in RL15 powder. What weight and brand of bullets are you using? So far with 27.5 gr. of W748 I've shot .6 to 1"groups with the 40 V-Max.

    Todai I had good & bad loads w/ H748 & BLC2

In my .204 Ruger Howa 1500, shooting 40 gr. V-maxs I noticed these things today. The good: W748 at 27.5 gr. (28.3 is isted as max) produced a 3 shot (only had 3 made up!) group of 1/2" (approx 3640 fps-next time will use a chrono). This would be great on coyotes but what about praries dogs...

    Cases seperating-why?

I have noticed that my mod. 96 Mauser 6.5 x 55 Swede cases only last about 3 reloads. I am only loading 44 gr. of IMR 4350 (2700 fps) using a 120 gr. Core Lokt. The cases are seperating down near the base. Do I have the resizing die adjusted wrong? What to do?
