    95 grainers

Several years ago I hit an estate sale of a guy who had been a shooter for many years. I bought 2 boxes of .224 95 gr. JHP bullets. They were made by a guy in Vermont probably back in the '50's or '60's. Over the last few years I've tried them in several chamberings. Today I shot some in...

    My Only Colt

A month or so ago I traded for this, just now getting around to taking pics. It's a Trooper MK III in 22 mag, 8 incher. Also a chance to show an old folder. Hope you guys enjoy. [/IMG]

    Stuck case

Several times I've had to use an extractor to pull cases from dies where the shell holder had pulled over the rim. Today I had a 38 spcl case head seperate and leave the case body in the die. Nothing unusual; non-carbide dies, but the cases were lubed normally. I was finishing up with a 100...

    Savage 99 scope base

Recently I traded for a Savage 99 EG that has been drilled & tapped. I'm thinking of mounting a Kollmorgen Bear Cub which is 26mm in dia. Ringwise the only choice is STD rings. I already have these. I've been unable to find a base with matte finish to go with the scope. Gloss is readily...

    A5 feed problem

I have a Browning A5 sweet sixteen that ejects the second shell after firing the first. Subsequently, it will fire the third shot. If anyone has any clues, please chime in. It's a beautiful old gun (1948) that I'd like to keep in top shape.

    Remington pocket pistol

This piece belongs to a friend of mine. I am estimating the condition at 10%. All parts are operational, and it's not in firing condition. It was found in a field many years ago. Any comments on it's condition and value would be appreciated...

    Marlin 336 lever problem

I apologize beforehand if this has been covered, but can't find this specific problem/answer by searching. The finger lever plunger is not engaging the trigger guard plate latch pin on my 336. Consequently the lever will not stay in place without pulling it tight with the trigger hand. The...

    722 barrel swap update

A few months ago I asked for info on replacing a barrel with another factory barrel on a 722. I took it down to Nagel's in San Antonio. Got it back this past Saturday. Excellent work. The smith fitted it up with the sight cut down. Put the 12x Burris back on and it shoots great. Thanks for...

    Forming die necessary?

With 250 Savage cases going out of sight, I've thought of forming from .308 brass which is plenty plentiful. The 250 case has more taper. Can this be done with my FL die or will a forming die be necessary? Anybody with experience have a clue? Search didn't yield much. Thanks.

    soda blasting

http://www.soda-blast.com/soda_pot_mini.htm Just wondering if this equipment would be useful in the gunsmithing trade for removing rust, old bluing, etc. The media used is bicarbonate soda. What do you fellows think?

    722 barrel swap

Since my "gunsmithing" abilities are limited to barrel bedding and refinishing, I have a question regarding barrel swaps. The barrel has been "ringed" on my 722 222Rem. It's visible w/a good light, and you can feel it w/a tight patch. A friend gave me a new 26" factory barrel. Gunsmith who...

    9mm Largo

I've seen attempts posted for this cartridge with little response, since the guns so chambered are not often seen anymore. Has anyone had experience loading this round? Dies for this thing have to be custom made at great expense. Question is, can 9mm Luger dies work? The dimensions are same...

    Hornady seating die

I have a question for users of Hornady dies. The seater specificly. Since their seat dies are diameter and not cartridge specific, I use the die that came with 25-06 set to seat 250 Savage bullets. Problem: the seating stem seems to stick to the 87 gr Sierras and subsequently pulls the bullet...

    722 Remington

Recently I acquired a 722 in .222 Remington. The stock is a little out of shape, so I'll refinish it. I know the 700 is a direct descendant, and am wondering if the action bolts are the same spacing on the short action models. Am thinking of using BDL bottom metal on the 722. Any suggestions...

    Hufnail bullets

Went to an estate sale yesterday. The guy had been a reloader. Most of his stuff was already sold. I did manage to pick an old Redding powder measure and some .224 bullets. The bullet boxes were marked: Caliber .224 95 gr HP D.B. Hufnail Town Line Rd Rutland, Vermont The bullets measure at...

    Savage 99 options

Recently, I acquired a Savage 99 take down in 250-3000. The exterior metal is in fairly good condition. Looking down the barrel is kinda scary. This barrel has the integral front sight. I've ordered dies which should be here Wed. My question: If this piece wont keep them on a pie plate at...
