If a gun has ever been built, that is easier to shoot well, I'd love to hear about it. Gotta love those N Frames!!!

Bill Davis PPC. What did I buy?!?

Check out the attached file. Went to the gun show in Sioux City today and picked this up for $340 out the door. Dealer swore it cost over $1000 to build in the 1970's. It's a Bill Davis Custom Model PPC gun. Who is Bill Davis? Has a 6" bull barrel 1 1/8" diameter, with an Aristocrat rib...

.45 Auto with small pistol primer?!?

Went to the range for my weekly session today, and when I got home, I'm tossing my brass in the tumbler. A few rounds looked "funny". I look closer, and notice that some of the brass I picked up has small pistol primer pockets!! I've never seen .45 auto brass with the small pockets. The...

    Props to Burris Customer Service

Just wanted to give public kudos to Burris Customer Service. I posted here a little over a week ago about a problem I was having in getting the scope rings tight enough to keep my red dot from rotating in the rings. Called Burris Monday and explained the allen head screws were too rounded to...

Shameless Brag & an Honest Question...

The attached file shows the shameless brag (at least for me) part. Gotta love those red dot sights!!! Which leads to my question. I'm having trouble getting the rings to hold the scope securely. Leupold Gilmore LG-1, in Burris mount and rings, on a S&W 625 V-comp. I tighten the rings as far...

Has anyone else tried this "brew"?!?

Got this recipe for a bulk solvent to soak handguns in, off another discusion board. 40% Kerosene 40% Mineral Spirits 15% Marvels Mystery Oil 5% Rislone I mixed up a batch this weekend, and soaked a stainless revolver in it for about an hour. After draining off the excess, and running a...

    New (to me) S&W 625-3

Just bought a trade-in from the local range yesterday. Hope to pick it up today after work. It's got the 4" barrel. Does anyone know how long it's been since S&W made these. Serial # is BEP77XX. I'm like a kid on X-mas eve. There just aren't many things better than getting a new pistol...

    Refinishing Walnut Grips....

I've got 3 walnut grips that are looking kinda ratty. Two of them have checkered panels. I'd like to strip off the old finish(looks almost like varnish) and apply a nice satin oil finish. I'm all out of wood stripper, stains, sealer, and finish oil, so I'll be buying new supplies. Anyone...

Mini Mag Lite/Bore Lite Adapter ?

Now that I need one, I can't find where I saw it for sale. It's a little fiber optic type unit, that slips on the front of a mini-mag lite. Any suggestions would be appreciated... Joe ------------------ Go NRA

    Slide to Frame Tightening Question...

I've read articles in the past about "squeezing" a slide in a padded vise, as the 1st step in a "tightening" job. My question is: How can this be done without cracking the recoil spring tunnel on the front of the slide? Is only the back portion put in the vise? Curious in Omaha... Joe...

Co-worker wants to sell his Officer's Model...

He brought in a pistol this morning and asked if I wanted to buy it. My Blue Book is at home and I'm not sure if the $350 he is asking is a fair price. It's an all steel Colt Officer's Model, Series 80 in .45 acp. It has the matte blue finish, the kind that almost looks like Parkerizing...

Colt (Python & Old style) Trooper Timing

Howdy Folks, I'm looking for some advice on a repair project I'm about to tackle. I have a Colt Trooper with poor cylinder timing. It is a sixties vintage (I think), with the flat V mainspring, rather than the coiled mainspring. As the hammer is retracted, the bolt drops down just enough to...

    Has anyone else ever noticed....

Owning a firearm is one of the freedoms in life we enjoy, that DEMANDS the highest level of personal responsibility. In our current society no one is ever to blame: It's the parent's fault. It's the tobacco companies fault. It's the auto manufacturer's fault It's the gun maker's fault...

    Blackhawk Re-assembly

I've got a kitchen table gunsmith project started. I'm installing a Bisley grip frame, trigger, and hammer on a New Model Blackhawk. My problem is I took the Blackhawk apart over a week ago, and every day that passes I'm feeling less confident I remember the sequence of installing the trigger...
