AI and the future of firearm use

Just out of curiosity, I tried an AI application to project what a future version of me using firearms might look like, and it came up with this. I'm not sure what to make of this.

    SWFA sale

I just got an e-mail notice from SWFA that their own brand of fixed magnification scopes are back in stock--and on sale. I haven't seen these in stock for the last 5 years or so--and for under $300 I have never seen a scope made by anyone that equals it in robustness and value IMHO.

    Weatherby 307

This is a very interesting new model to me--it appears to be a nod to the home-builder who wants to customize it to their own tastes since they also are offering actions alone. I'm not sure how the vanguard will survive unless it's going to be offered as a cheaper "one and done" alternative...

    AB 375 and 338 Enabelrs

Very interesting article by Bryan Litz about two cartridges they developed along with Peterson brass. Although "exotic" by most people's standards--there's still some interesting info in the article that is just basics ballistics and of wider interest than to just the ELR crowd. BL seems...

    Annual AR function test

I have a rather large collection of ARs; as a result some of them may go years between use. It's a lot of work, but I've decided it's necessary to do an annual function check of all of them, even if they haven't been recently used or going to be used. Going through my AR 10's--my 358 win build...

    Forbes 280 rem

Being a Mainer I run into some unique Maine-made firearms, (Windham for example) and yesterday I had my first encounter with a Forbes (which has been sold to Wilson Combat and is now called NULA) that a friend of mine has in 280 rem. I've shot a few of the "new wave" ultralight rifles by other...

Rifle malfunction where I least expected it

I screwed up and wish I was as smart as the rest of you. Yesterday I took out my 270 win build I did a while ago and decided it was time to put some cartridges through it--on the menu were 150 gr interbonds driven by Ramshot magnum. I had problems immediately, stiff cartridge chamberings with...

New cartridge that actually IS a winner (IMHO)

I got to spend a bit more time with my friend's 6.8 Western rifle; it's one of the few new commercial cartridges to come along that I think really is a winner and has a viable and useful niche. I have a model 70 in 270 WSM--I've read a couple of reviews that said "The 6.8 Western is what the 270...

Dumb luck, bad technique or just a dream?

I live on an island in Downeast Maine and in 24 hours we're getting hit by hurricane Lee. An odd thing about big storms is that the day before is often dead calm and placid--so why not go out and try some long distance 22lr shooting? My call was a good one--at the range it was in fact...

    cold bore shift

I got inspired to go out and shoot my ilion remlin 336 30-30 today--today's menu consisted of 150 gr speer hot cors driven by IMR 3031. This particular rifle has never seemed to like 150 gr bullets; but the faster I drove them the tighter the groups got. When I say groups--I mean out of 5 shots...

    Simple single shot satisfaction

I bought this CVA single shot hunter in 444 marlin a few years ago--as I recall it was around $200 and features a bergara-made barrel, I thought what's there to lose? Found a half-empty box of hornady superformance cartridges featuring their 265 interlock, they stopped making it some time ago...

    22lr Bend drift?

    Yes, it's a thing--bend drift.

    mysteries of 22lr--part2

Technically this post isn't about shooters making their own ammunition so I suppose it could be argued that it should be put on a different forum thread, but I think it belongs here because it does have some relevance to the process of making ammunition--and I do in fact handload some 22lr. A...

Your all-time favorite AR you own

It can be one you built or one you bought OEM manufactured. You can have your reasons which you can expound upon--or say "just because." For me it is a pretty tough choice since I have so many--both AR 15 and 10, only 3 of which are manufacturer assembled. I have some that will shoot very small...

    Shooting 22lr in the rain

Not as crazy as it may sound. Theoretically, lower air pressure, warm temperature and high humidity should all contribute to reduced air density--does this help 22lr bullets? I decided to try and find out--rifle is CZ 457 topped by a Leaupold HD5. The Leaupold delivers in spades where all my...

    6mm Predator vs 6mm ARC

I have both in AR builds and have decided to see if there is any kind of advantage one might have over the other. Both cartridges are necked down from grendel brass--but because the PRC shoulder is knocked back a bit I'm using nickle-plated brass for the predator (so I can tell them apart). Both...

    "graceful" cycling

I mentioned this on another thread to someone who was having accuracy issues in their AR10 build depending on whether or not he had his gas system "turned on" or not. He mentioned his groups opened up significantly--though not terribly, when the gas system was cycling. The hardest part for me...

    New home for 7mm STW

Brand spanking new XRS chassis came in today-- I ordered it in Savage CIP 3.850 thinking it would suffice for the 7mm STW (assuming I could fuss with the feed lips to get it to work, normally the AICS 338 LM magazines won't work with the big belted cases). I also ordered an AICS CIP 3.850 from...

    Large Rifle Magnum Primers

Not writing this to start a whine-fest--just a simple (hopefully) question. My supply of large rifle magnum primers is coming to an end, probably run out by the end of the year. I shoot lots of hand-loads that require them--I've read that CCI's #34 is the same thing as a LRMP with (perhaps ? ) a...

    7mm STW with RL 33

After shooting some 22lr this morning a front went through and the sun came out so I decided to go out again but this time try out some new powder (RL 33) on my 7mm STW--some of the best big magnum powders like H1000 have been inducted into the halls of unobtainium. I made a fairly stupid...
