DAYUUMM... why'd you marry her? (LONG, but maybe worth it)

There's a thread in another part of this forum titled "Little sneaky ways to get a new gun". It's about how some gun owners buy and bring their new toys home--whether they gotta lie, cheat, steal, bargain, or trade with their spouse for approval or consent. I wrote this in response to it, but...

1911 Light triggers vs. `Duty` triggers

    There:s a thread runnin, mostly regarding a question about tuning a lighter-than-`average` trigger so that it is crisp. I:ve been away from 1911 IPSC-type competitions for >20 years, and I haven:t followed the technology since I stopped competing. I:ve got a 1911 with a 3 1/4lb `glass-break`...

    Teach me about Glocks...

Sorry, I tried to search "Safe Action System" but came up with way too many threads. Everything I know about Glocks could fit in a thimble upside down. I fired a 9mm Glock about 10-12 years ago, but don't remember anything about the gun except that it didn't point quite as naturally as a 1911...

    Funny stories and CCW advice

Dunno quite where to put this, so I'll post here. Too much coffee this morning and free-form thoughts... Abslootly right on the mark. I quoted two different posts, but the observations are dead on. I was never LEO, but I used to ride-along once a month for almost 2 years with the local PD. I...

GREAT lead cleaner !! (copper scouring pads)

I spent almost 3 hours on 4 websites reading every piece of advice for cleaning lead-fouled barrels. There seemed to be 8 favorite methods that were repeatedly suggested (in no particular order): 1) Lewis Lead Remover 2) Shooter's Choice Lead Remover (soak; no maximum time limit) 3) Blue...

    What does "pinned" mean?

What does it mean when someone says a Smith and Wesson is pinned? What part is pinned to what? Thank you.

-------Where's a good place to look for classified ads?

TFL has been a great site to look at for finding gear, accessories, handguns and rifles. Now that it's stopping, where will you go to look for these things? I know about: 1911forum AccurateReloading.com AR15.com AuctionArms AssaultWeb.net CalGuns FirearmsTradingPost Glocktalk.com GunsAmerica...

    weird M1A doubling problem

I've shot 500 of my reloads, Hirtenberger, South African, Radway, and Portugese milsurp through this rifle without any incidents--no slamfires, no doubling; no problems at all. I have about 1400 rounds through the rifle. Opened a new lot of Hirtenberger surplus and had one incident of doubling...

How to assemble slide and frame on Kimber Ultra Ten II?

I have an Ultra Ten II without an instruction manual. I've disassembled 1911's (70 and 80 series) hundreds of times. I had no problem completely stripping the pistol for cleaning; I reassembled the frame with its parts, and the slide with its' parts. When I mount the slide back on the frame...

Anybody else been banned from Pistolsmith.com?

I've been meaning to ask; idle curiousity and free time bring this to mind. I responded to a thread over at Pistolsmith.com asking about a nationally-known gunsmith's work. I sugar-coated the details, but essentially, I discouraged the user(s) from submitting his business to that particular...

    one-handed drills?

Does anyone have a link that they can steer me to describing with words or pictures, how to reload and clear a jam using just one hand? Thank you.

What kind of scope for heavy pistol recoil?

I'm gathering information on different scopes for a purchase. I want to use a variable power (most likely 2-8x, maybe 3-10 or 12x). It'll be mounted on a Magnum Research BFR 45-70, and may do double duty on a DE 50AE (toying with the idea of a set of detachable rings). What brands and models...

    ---------Reloading for a 45-70 BFR

Sheer funk moved me into this gun. I wanted to pass the time while my rifle cools down on the silhouette line. Of the choices I allowed myself, the XP100 is impossible to find in the caliber I wanted (.308) in the PRK. I just can't swallow the looks of the Encore, and I got a damn good price on...

    another case cleaner...

I use corn cob and "CRC Mechanix Orange" citrus hand cleaner from Orchard Supply. $3.99 for 16 oz. Two capfuls have cleaned 5000 rounds so far; the cob is gray now, but shows no sign of needing replacement. I run the tumbler for 90 minutes / batch. They come out clean and shiny like they're...

    FFL serial # confirmation site

The other day I stumbled across a site where I could enter a supposedly good FFL number to see if the certificate was actually valid. I lost the bookmark. Does anyone know what that link was? Thank you.

How do you store your guns?

My rifles and shotguns are oiled and naked in the safe, but my pistols are stored oiled in their gun rugs. Is it bad to store the handguns that way?
