    Savage 11 trophy hunter xp

I have been kicking around the need or perhaps the want of a mid quality left handed bolt action rifle for deer, hogs, and other tasty things. I looked at all of the comps and maybe settled on the Savage 11 trophy hunter xp. I can get it for a little over $500 out the door. I like the...

    Browning Maxus lefty trigger conversion

The manual says the safety can be converted to left hand operation by a qualified gunsmith. Does anyone know if that requires parts? While I would like to find a gunsmith, if I could find a good diagram, instructions and parts if required, I think I could manage it. Anybody try it before?

    Lefty 870 or BPS?

I usuallly don't ask for opinions, but here it goes... I have been thinking about a new shotgun. I have always wanted a left handed pump gun and have a few bucks left over from taxes this year. I can get a left handed 870 Express for around $350 or a Browning BPS for around $500. The BPS seems...

How many ways to pronounce Hoppes?

I find it funny after being out for the outdoor sporting world for a long stint words that I thought were iconic are now pronounced differently. Hoppes as in Hoppes No. 9 is one where I find the strangest. When I was a kid many decades ago up until about ten years ago I always heard it called...

    1911 Smithing Opinions Needed

I have this new to me 1911-A1 Springfield Loaded. Over all I am happy with it's condition except one thing. I was field stripping again since it felt a little dry like their was insufficient lube on wearing surfaces. I inspected this gun pretty well before committing but never noticed this until...

    First 1911

I did it. I bought my first 1911. I had been wanting a 1911 ever since I was shown and handled a surplus colt as a child. I am pretty sure it was from WWI since the person that owned it was in their 90's back in the seventies. He said he brought it home after being discharged. I had been...

Pointing an empty handgun when rounds run out?

I was flipping through the DVR and saw a Personal Defense show that I recorded for S&G's. The trainer advocated racking the slide and pointing the gun at the target in a last ditch effort once all mags are depleted. That thought had never occurred to me as a tactic. I might be tempted to...

    Killer Shot

I was walking through the local flea market this morning and I hear two guys talking about a recent shooting death. I was going to ask what happened as I was near enough they could not have cared if I heard them. The one guy in his late twenties says that his friend was shot in the leg recently...

    Inadvertant Monday Purchase, Kel-tec PF-9

There I was, minding my own business riding along on my Harley and I come across a gun shop that I had been meaning to visit. Why not go in and cool off? I start looking at the 1911's and quickly move down to the end of the counter where the pocket guns reside. I have been looking for something...

Maxpedition packs-Anyone use them for carry?

I saw an ad in a magazine for a Maxpedition Versapack that looks like it might work for a secondary carry or maybe primary when it is too hot to conceal under light clothes. It is a shoulder pack that can spin around to your front side when you need to get into it. It has a universal holster...
